Otamendi back in form kicking kacatic while he was on the ground. Typical.
I feel sorry for messi. Argentina just never seem to click.

{Ed001's Note - isn't that partly down to Messi disappearing up his own arse every time a tournament comes around?}

Lol Ed001. Think he is competing with Ronaldo on how far they can get up their own arses. Ronaldo still winning the golden cock trophy for me.

{Ed001's Note - but he turns up when it matters and drags his team through. Messi just complains and whines.}

Messi just doesn't look interested, and for me, doesn't deserve to start. Think Huguain with Dybala and Aguero supporting, would suit them better as a team. Although this Argentina side has got to be the worst I've seen since I watched my first world cup in 1978.

After say Ed01.Rakatic looks a great player. Watched him a few time but thought he has been great in last two games.

Do you think he still has what it takes?

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, he looked finished earlier in the season, but seems to have returned to form lately. It might be the slower pace of games is suiting him, because his legs were looking like they were on the way out.}

It shows why the Messi- maradona debate is rediculous.
Maradona single handily drive Argentina to world cup, Messi is always a no show.

Cheers ed01! Yeah could be. Argies have been poor.

Just amazed with that performance. Have never seen Argentina play so badly. Sampaoli has not prepared his team well at all and deserves part of the blame.

Argentina is blessed with lots of talented forwards, but that's a extremely weak midfield.

Jonpow- Rakatic has had a good season after looking like his career was on the wane, pretty much coincided with us being linked.

Looks like Sampaoli needs Juanma Lillo to succeed.
Just my opinion, but having a playmaker like Banega might have actually freed up Messi in the final 3rd.

Argentina being this poor shouldn't be a surprise. Got through South American qualifying by the skin of their teeth. Interestingly, this feels like a world cup with little to choose between teams. We could see a surprise winner this time.

Redphil you are right what u are saying lad, messi is nothing to maradonna twice he single handly took argentina to world cup success with a worse team they have now. Messi is no comparison to diego, not in the same league, one was arguably the best player there has ever been the other just thinks he is the best player ever.

As much as I can’t stand Ronaldo I’ve got to admit his will to win and fighting spirit is far greater than Messi’s on the international stage. I still think Messi’s the better player but he’s been extremely disappointing so far.

Was involved in the Rakitic debate last transfer window when everyone slated first team barcelona midfielder, player adored by every coach and player he played with, player that was sevilla captain and player that won trophies all of our first team players can dream off. Rakitic is class and something closest to Xabi Alonso. He can walk and will be useful on the pitch and you can say his legs are gone but he is always im top 3 runners in his team. He is so smart in reading, has excelent passing and dead ball. He would be a welcoming addition to any club in the world I just don't see how the ed01 who has so much knowledge about the game doesn't see it lol.

Croatia is a team full of players at big clubs none of whom get pampered or overhyped. Mandukzic Lovren Modric and Kovacic all playing in the semi-finals of the champions league all of them doing their job with pride for their national team. Messi on the other hand was sulking like a spoilt brat. Give me 11 team mates over 1 over indulgded super star any day.

21 Jun 2018 21:43:37
True ed. But I think he should play on a wing to open up space for the rest of his team. As he always has 3 opposition players around him. I just feel sorry for him because of the pressure he would be under from the Argentine public. And I know all players from every country have pressure on them but messi is clearly an introvert unlike Ronaldo who loves any kind attention. I can relate.

{Ed001's Note - he plays where he wants to play. If Messi is such an introvert he would not do half the personal appearance stuff he chooses to do or the ads etc.}

Maradona is EASILY the best there has ever been.

Not only did he drag Argentina to 2 World Cup finals (one win), but he also dragged Napoli through an entire season and won their first Scudettos ever.

He’s a genius. He did it when defenders could tackle, you played with a ball (not a balloon) and you played on earth and grass, not these grass effect carpets they have now.

Modric looking best midfielder of the tournament so far, Croatia could be very dangerous. Very open WC so far, wouldn’t discount England going far if the forwards can click.

Didnt Pele do the same thing ron.

{Ed001's Note - hardly the same. Brazil were always the best team with wonderful players around him for Pele to work with. Argentina were awful but had Maradona.}

Didn’t realize the disliking u had for Messi ed01. Have to say I think your being a bit harsh on this occasion. That Argentina team is Awful, from back to midfield there is no service and all the do is give the ball to Messi when he isn’t even in positions to recieve it, then expect (along with the nation) for him to come up with some miraculous. That’s not easy when you have 3 or 4 players running to close you down every time and everyone is focused on stopping you cos they know the other 80 % of the team is useless!

{Ed001's Note - I don't dislike him, I don't care about him one way or the other. Messi was not even trying, that is down to him and making excuses for him being a spoilt brat is not helping anyone.}

Messi thinks the world revolves around him and that's a reason why I'm not keen on the man. He kind of reminds me of a teenage girl at times, if he doesn't get it his way he spits his dummy out.

I lost any respect for messi after the tax scam thing. a multi millionaire like that? probably a billionaire.

sorry but that is the behaviour of a c u next Tuesday. and a slap in the mouth of all the working class people that spend their hard earnewd wages on tickets.

I think it's fair to say modric has been the best cm so far but I reckon r kid Jordan is up there too. Only one game so let's see how we do on Sunday. If that volley had gone in I think he would be right up there.

Sorry to go on. I don't see why people were expecting so much from Argentina, they barely just qualified, skin of their teeth. Which is surprising when you look at them on paper.

Wales did well 2 yrs ago with 1 World class player and 3 good (ish) players, I think you have to look at their team spirit. Argentina should not be drawing with Iceland. Take away Iceland 4 top players and Messi probably earns more in 5 yrs of wages than the whole team of Iceland is worth in value.
