For a bit of fun and away from transfers, it would be interested to hear what people top Liverpool XI would be based on players they have actually seen play. I’m still quite young so I’m only thinking back as far back as early 2000s when i really started watching football a lot.
It doesn’t matter how long they player was with us either, just on form and how much u like / liked them

Gk - Reina
Not really a tough decision considering we haven’t had many greats and for a few seasons with us he was top class!

Right back - was tempted to go for finnan as I always thought of him as reliable but I’m going to go with Trent out of loyalty to the current squad and the fact that he’s a local lad and has had one of the best debut seasons for us that I can remember!

Cb - again a few tough ones, obviously loved Carra and Agger but I’m going to go for hyypia and Van Dijk as I think they’d be a killer pairing!

Left back - again was a big fan of Aurelio when fit, and am loving the start Robertson has had and think he could be our long term fix there but I’m going for riise for that rocket of a left foot and always remember him as sound enough defensively

Midfield - going for a trio of Gerrard, Alonso and Coutinho
I think that midfield picks itself for me and the players I’ve seen live and seen enough of.

Up front - salah, Torres, Suarez
Again for the timeframe that I’ve been a proper fan no one has come close to these three and with all them on their best form in a red shirt that would be a serious amount of goals

for me can't have suarez or coutinho in any team I just cant
call me childish but I just cant
swap mane for Suarez and coutinho for gary mac or Maxi Rodriguez
also Babbel has to get in at right back for me.

Nice post Jak.

I'm a bit older than you, started supporting around 84, and remember the teams from 86 onwards.

I'd have Brucie in goal, one of the most natural and charismatic keepers I have ever seen. Clemence was probably better, but he left before I started following the team, so to stick to the criteria, it has to be Bruce.

RB has to be Rob Jones - he would have slashed the number of caps Neville (*spit*) got for England if he had stayed fit.

CB - I've always loved the way Hansen glided around the pitch, so he's in, and I would also pick Phil Neal - no nonsense.

LB - tricky one. Always had a soft spot for Bjornebye, but its a toss up between Nicol and Riise. I'll go for Nicol as being a bit more rounded.

CMs - Gerrard and Alonso, but I was to late for Souness as I never saw him play in red. I loved Ronnie Whelan, and Digger could play back here, but I'm going to pick the Danish scouser - Jan Molby!

Forwards - Rushie and SKK, obvs, and I'll throw Salah into the mix above Suarez and Fowler, although its a close run thing!

like Zeddicus I’ve been supporting since 86 I’d have to have John Barnes in my team, awesome player. Post 86 I’m not sure I’d go for Sir Kenny but certainly would pre ‘86:
Brucie - other than Reina no other competitor after 86
Rob Jones - what a player he could have been
Hansen - nuff said
Carragher - tough call to leave out Hyypia
Staunton - my only “problem” position to fill with quality

Gerrard and Alonso - again too late for Souness

Suarez Beardsley Barnes
Fowler - tough call leaving out Rush

Some true Liverpool legends not in there.

I've supported since 98 but only really remember since 01 so for me:

A few players like RIise, Carra, Hendo, Coutinho and Firmino very unlucky to miss out (and if i was building an actual team reather than my favourites, they would probably make it in)
