I never ever believed we would get Allisson or Oblak and I certainly would'nt have paid what Roma was asking, but I have to say after reading edd's list of most underrated I like Fabiansky and Nicky Pope so iwouldn't Mind if we signed either one of those.

Fabianski is 33 prone to lapses of concentration and not at all a top class keeper. Pope has had one decent season out of several mediocre ones. Neither are an upgrade and frankly we would be making the same mistakes that we have in the past if we bought either of them.

Fabiansky is worse than Pope and Pope is not good enough in our system as he plays in a very defensive if not the most defensive team in the PL. He will struggle mightily in a system where he will have to do all the things Karius actually for the most part, excels at as in quick distribution, playing the high line, good footwork and being the sweeper keeper. So why would we sign either of these guys who cannot play in a system that for the most part, Karius actually excels in? IMO, we get thew full upgrade at GK or we stick with Karius or bring in a competent GK to compete with him as that would do him good, IMO.

For me it's easy. Stop mucking around with keepers that are no better than what we've got and pay for an upgrade. Otherwise - what's the point?

Season 08-09 we got 2nd having one of the best middlefield (Gerrad-Xabi-Mascherano) .
Season 13-14 we got 2nd having the best attack (Suarez-Sturridge) .
Season 18-19 we have to try to have the best defence starting by buying the best goalkeeper possible (Alisson) .

I have to say I'm a bit of a fabianski fan, used to be. No he's not world class but neither is Alison. In his day he was decent but too old now.

Pope? Juries still out for me. One season does not maketh the man but it is encouraging. He was Fantastic last season, see what he does next term.

I think we should get Buffon for s year or two and assess the situation then. He will help the younger keepers to I bet.

Gareth Bale wouldn't try that rubbish against Buffon. I 35 yard screamer right at the keeper. Buffon would have patted it down a C caught it.

Spot on, Hessle. No more bandaids on the GK issue. Get the quality or make do with what you have. As you said, what's the point?

This gk for our system is getting strange. Yes i get it, but off the top of my head. Almost most of the silly/ soft goals we gifted. Were rather down to poor gk/ mistakes or loss of concentration by 1 of our back 4. I'd far rather we got a gk that can actually save shots, deal with crosses and communicate well and demand his area. Than this sweeper keeper that everyone seems obsessed with. Yes distribution is a great bonus. But give me a gk with average distribution, but all the attributes i have listed anyday.
