I see a few posts comparing the Fekir situation with other transfer targets of Klopp from previous windows. VVD and Keita. How Klopp was willing to wait it's the same here etc.

Is it the same though? Is it common for a transfer to have gotten as far as it appeared without a fee agreement? Surely shirt numbers being picked, medicals which must cost a bomb and interviews with kit on etc.

How is this anywhere close to the previous transfer sagas? How could we not have agreed a fee to have gotten to that point?

Thank You.

My guess would be that the club, with permission from the French FA and Lyon got the medical etc out the way with the intention of agreeing a fee so it didn’t get in the way of the French preparation for the WC.
Unfortunately a fee couldn’t be agreed and now people are guessing it is due to the medical, when it could be simply the two sides couldn’t agree on the terms.

Therefore the deal isn’t dead per se, but we either do what Lyon want or move on to an alternative.

People were saying Edwards should get a statue for signing fekir for 48 mil! Lol, his low ball offer ruined the deal. The lad I'd worth 60mil, just pay it.

Really? You think we’d have allowed Coutinho over to Barcelona to chose a shirt and conduct interviews emote we ageeed a fee?
Just saying to those who compare to VVD and waiting or Keita and agreeing for next season (this) this situation is nothing alike. Everything was agreed to get to this point. We walked away. We won’t go back Klopp is waiting on anything. It’s dead, it is no more. Nothing like VVD or Keita, Fekir isn’t fit to insure or to risk or both. Match fitness yes, going to WC and will have a great season next year. But for long term investment of £50m++ no. Never.

Purely guess work, either we had agreed and pulled out due to the medical or we tried to renegotiate after the medical and using that as a reason to drive the price down to which Lyon probably told us to get stuffed.

if both sides thought that a deal would be agreed then yes, as it is the selling club that are making that investment in both time and money plus last year there wasn’t a world cup so there wasn’t the added element of how it effects their national team.

I haven't seen anything from the eds (unless i have missed it to suggest it was a medical issues) so until then I still think a deal can be agreed.

Sorry for my blasé post. Liverpool must've had a reason for not signing him. I support the club no matter who we sign. I'd support them if we signed fellini.

I'd love them with all my heart if they were in the 2nd division, struggling to stay afloat. But I'm still allowed to be dissapointed the t we didn't sign fekir.

Can someone please explain to me the reasoning for the multitude of posts from Liverpool supporters about Fekir apparently failing a medical for whatever reason, yet the guy has played near on 100 games the last two seasons for Lyon and France. I find it very hard to believe a guy can play almost 100 games in two years but not be fit enough to pass a medical. Are Liverpool supporters suggesting the Lyon and French National team medical staff are inept at their jobs?

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if the whole failed medical scenario was a complete fabrication by those who professed "the deal is done, will be announced at 9pm" to cover the fact they were talking crap.

Just wow no official confirmation on any of the above medics comments nobody except the two clubs know why the deal hasn't been completed could be any number of reasons.

Can people stop repeating the tired "LFC tried to low ball Lyon" nonsense cos till further notice, NONE of that is true. Also, There is NO way Lyon would have allowed us to do the medical without a fee being agreed and all that. That much is fact. Now, Fekir has had two arthroscopic surgeries on the same knee since 2015 when he got it reconstructed. The last "scope" he got was in March which was just 3 months ago. This is not me talking. This is all over the French media. Fekir may have played a thousand games prior BUT in the end, it is up to LFC to to protect themselves from any liability if there is any doubt. Why? Cos we play a very high octane system and it takes it's toll on your joints and not to mention that the PL is the most physical league in Europe.

If our medical team has any doubt, it is within their right to present their concerns and even then, we were ready to go ahead with the deal hence, we asked for a second opinion. If Lyon refused that and demanded we take Fekir as is then, why in the heck should we just accept it? So we can please a bunch of petulant, spoiled brats who call themselves fans? To placate those who have no idea about the stark realities of football nor realize that players actually FAIL medicals? NO WAY.

We're dealing with millions of pounds here and LFC is not a charity and neither is Lyon. If what is said in the French media is true then we had every right to walk away from the deal as Fekir is now Lyon's prob. and even if another club signs him now, I still wouldn't care cos he will be their prob as well. We move on.

It'll be interesting to see how his knee holds out over the next 2/ 3 years if he doesn't sign for Liverpool.

Fair enough. I did take back my comment about low balling. It was said in z blasé manner rather than coming from petulance.

Someone said it earlier, we already have a fantastic team, we have fabs and Keita coming too. I am happy. I'd like a new keeper but if not I'm still happy with the team. And I'll be pleased with anyone we sign.

I'm glad we dodged a bullet if what brover is saying is true.
