What are the ed' s and everyone thoughts of the captaincy next season? There is every chance Hendo won't play every game. My thoughts are VVD to captain the side. Don't get me wrong though, I think Hendo is and has been a very good captain.

I think Hendo is great captain. He does interview so well, care for fans like Sean Cox, give great dressing room talks. We should have 2 captains- one for on-field which VVD and one for dressing room talks/ post match interviews Henderson. This will tap into strength of each player.

Salah for me, he is a talisman which was made evident in Kiev when the team fell to pieces without him. He would inspire victories.

Hendo will still be captain regardless of games played.
Milner will be vice captain if he stays.
VVD might get vice captain if Milner goes.

Hendo is our captain and it should remain that way, to say otherwise is disrespectful. What makes you think VVD is the right man for the captaincy? Hendo is the captain and it's fully deserved. Just because we're getting new players in doesn't mean we won't see Hendo next season, if he's fully fit he'll be on and rightly so. I understand he has fitness issues but this doesn't warrant him losing his captaincy, I'd give him at least another season, if it gets worse then fair enough but not atm, he has a lot to offer.

Obviously Hendo for Captain lad's.

OP, the status quo will remain the same. Hendo will be club capt. whether he plays or not. The capt. is a player and a human being hence, not a machine hence, cannot play every game. Not playing every game or cos we are signing players in your position, does not strip you of the club captainship and if Hendo does not play, it will be Milner (if he is still here and comes in) or the longest serving player on the squad within the first 11 as Klopp has always done it. It's that simple, really.

On who should be capt., I want no forwards nor VVD anywhere near that band cos forwards need to focus on what is in front of them and not worry about what is behind them. As for VVD, he is NOT a leader BUT only plays one on T. V as he is too relaxed, chill and tho he likes to point and all that, he does not have the makings of a capt, IMO.

Henderson should remain Captain.

Hendo has been a decent captain and seems a really top guy. Shame he never turned up in the final and no one could describe him as a born winner. He is just a decent guy who was rightly choosen because the squad and personalities were so weak at the time.

Terry was Chelsea captain when they won the league and started only a handful of games.

Carrick was United captain despite rarely playing.

Cahill was Chelsea captain and rarely played.

Being captain is about more than being on the pitch. It is about being a leader, an ambassador, and a role model. Good captains are not always the best players.

Hendo is a good captain but not a great captain. From my name you can tell I like hendo. He does everything a captain should really really well, as good as anyone but he doesn't take games by the scruff, he doesn't seem to inspire the team although he is constant in his barking. I think he and Vvd are the only options last season and Fabhinio now too. But I'd still give it to Hendo, the other guys have been here for months or weeks. I think Firmino would be a great captain but he doesn't speak much English does he? I saw an interview on focus in Spanish. Maybe he is still a bit young. I think Firmino would inspire the players better. If you made a firmino/ Henderson clone then you would have a great captain.

I was reading a book recently called the Captain’s Class which tries to identify the greatest teams of all times in any sport and what differentiates them. It’s a great read. None of the best teams had their best players as captains. Pele never captained Brazil because he felt if he wasn’t they would have two big influencers on the referee - him and the captain. I think Henderson has done well, but lacks a bit of leading by example in big games. Van Dyke would be my choice as I think it may turn him up a notch both vocally and his concentration levels.

Great response. Interesting read from all replies. I agree that Hendo should remain captain and is very profesional in his conduct. I'm already excited for the new season to start. YNWA.

Adam

The same Salah whose agent rang up to Real and Barcelona in the very first season? Really? 😂😂😂.

Firmino or Mane! Bobby deserves every bit of it! Without him there is no SYSTEM!

Defo Henderson. He deserves it and when he is not on the pitch then Milner and if not him VVD. Good thing is that we seem to have an increasing amount of leaders which can only be good moving forward!

Don't kill me here but since Hendo's been made captain, hand on heart, I've never been able to see him lifting a serious trophy and it stays with me every time we get to a Final. He won't lift one as captain it should be VVD 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Honestly a captain is supposed to gee up his teammates and grab games by the scruff of the neck when things aren't going to plan. Henderson doesn't do that. Not saying I don't like him, but I don't think he should be captain.

As for Salah, I'm sure most our players have contacted Real or Barcelona. He would inspire victories while wearing our red and to me that's more important.

Harry, I don't want forwards being capt. as they cannot see what is behind them. A mid or CB or GK should be capt. as they can see the field better and get guys into better positions. People talk about Vieira, SG, Keane, Vidic, Souness etc. Which one of those are forwards? My point, exactly so there's that.

Prince Hendo, Same old stuff. "Hendo does not grab games by the scruff of the neck". You mean he does not inspire the team or take games by the scruff of the neck like he did when we were under the cosh vs Roma at Anfield where he rallied the troops and and dragged the team out of the dumps by getting stuck in and pressing the Roma players which was where we stated creating chances until Salah scored? You mean like when he completely shut down Naingolaan in that same game, something that crippled Roma going forward? Or when we were down 1-0 to Sevilla and it was his one-two with Moreno that brought us the equalizer in a moment when we were not playing well? Yeah, We've heard it all before.

Did it occur to you that that is not what he is asked to do cos we all know how SG used to do Rafa's head in, charging all over the place instead of staying within the tactical framework? Again, I want him to be the best capt. for LFC in the way Klopp and his team mates wants him to be and he is doing that brilliantly and that is good for him. If you want the likes of Keane, SG, Souness or Vieira, you can always youtube their playing days.

It looks good either way to be honest, we have a lot of leaders at the club. Wasn’t all these guys captains before they moved to us.
Lovren
Lallana
VVD
Fekir (fingers crossed)
Henderson
Milner
Have I missed any?

Kenny was a terrible captain wasn’t he Brover? Forwards definitely can’t be captains.

Nabil Fekir! He is a leader!

23.) 09 Jun 2018

Kenny Dalglish?

He wasn’t captain, it was Phil Neale and before that it was Souness.

Henderson is our captain, end of story 🤝.

Kenny played under 5 captains at Liverpool. Hughes Thompson SouNess neal and Hansen.

Vvd for me.
Hendo does his own thing well enough but I don't see him inspiring or instructing.
Vvd does both naturally.

Langland, and you can tell that Hendo does his own thing well and is not inspiring or VVD does (whatever it is you think he does) naturally by knowing absolutely NOTHING about what both players are like personally on the pitch and in the dressing room?
