It looks like the goalkeeper debate is going to run and run until the window shuts. As I posted last week, karius will never want to feel the way he felt
After the final ever again. He is young, he has made errors, however
Last Saturday's performance could be the make or break of him. Who is to say he doesn't come back mentally stronger, works hard on his concentration and decision making and becomes Germany's number 1 for the next 10 years, however I understand that it could go the other way.
I will continue to go to Anfield and support him if he is our number 1 next season, I would rather have him than sign someone who is not proven and top quality . ED001/ 33 your thoughts?

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say. Only way we will know is when he is put under pressure in a game. It is like looking at youth, until they get a chance you have no idea if they will make it or not in truth. Some of the best youth players wilt in the spotlight, some that looked barely good enough in youth ranks grow as their confidence shoots up from getting a chance and suddenly turn into good players.}

Well I bet you he's never going to throw the ball at an attackers feet again!

Let's not pretend this was the first mistake he's made. Karius has done enough damage it's time we had one of the best goalkeepers in the world for a change.

I also imagine the next time he takes an elbow to the head he’ll take a few more mins to compose himself.

Spot on, Boof. I will support Karius until he is NO longer a red. YNWA!

BRover do you hold the same philosophy for the LFC players that you don't like that are still here 🤔.

I agree lfc8, but if he learns from those mistakes potentially we could have a top keeper in Karius. The point I'm trying to make is, if the so called top keepers can't be brought in, and it opens up a whole new debate on who you would class as a top keeper that would also suit our style of play . Then I would like us to give the lad a go and prove he can be the keeper of a title winning side rather than buy for the sake of it with no improvement .

For me if there is a top class keeper available then we need to go all out to bring him in. If we don't get one then the position is Karius's to earn/ keep next season alongside Ward if he stays. I cannot see any other outcome for Mignolet than being sold this window. If as suggested Butland comes in then it will be a straight shoot out between him and Karius. I can't realistically see Klopp spending the kind of money suggested though on Butland just to sit on the bench.

I think we should look to do business with Southampton again, their keeper Macarthy is a really good keeper, and the price would be a lot lower than Allison or Obak, crazy money for them both .

If we are we were to go after a top keeper who realistically is proven in the prem?

Read this site a lot. seen the arguments for Oblak. very highly rated but play a for a better side in La Liga n tbh there r only really 3 quality sides. hus being the most defensive in nature.

Allison. i admit I've only seen him twice. against us as highlight reels are pointless. but he conceded 7 in 2 games. and we sat back in 1 game! Again. he plays behind a supposedly more defensive side in another league Serie A.

I like Karius and he hasn't played a dull season yet. Yes he's made his mistakes but what keeper hasn't? I think if he can get over the mental aspects we may well b talking about him as the missing piece. If not we are in same boat as before.

The point is. not 1 of the currently linked keeper play behind an attacking side like out's and none are prem proven. so we could be facing at least a year for them to settle. de gea didn't set prem slight in first 2 years. ronaldo took a few years too. granted they were younger but foreign nonetheless.

I would stick with karius if not trying ward n see how mental state plays out. It will make or break. hopefully the former.

Interesting discussion on the goalkeeping situation. Every goalkeeper has mistakes in them and through tv social media and you tube it can make or break them. Butland 2 years ago was immense, at Stoke he has regressed. From what I’ve seen in Alisson, not a 80-90 million pound keeper, Oblak or Leno for me. Butland could be a master stroke but an Elite club and to win things requires an Elite keeper. So trust in Klopp, I hope Karius stays but starts as number 2 but not sure whether he has the mental strength to get over those 2 high profile gaffes.

Thanks Boof, just reminded if a point I was making to a couple of mates the other day. Social media causes more problems than it resolves, particularly when emotions are high.

Getting back to keeper issues. Whoever comes in, if they do, will probably have only slightly less pressure on them than moyes had after fergie. Yes, our team is in a better state than when he left utd, however, we are believed to have has this problem position for a long time now, a fact that has been exacerbated by tv n social media, especially after a good 2nd half of season but the scrutiny on any new keeper that does comes in will be absolutely phenomenal and will be unprecedented in their career experienced to date. That's another issue we need to prefer for its a poisoned chalice!

Who then do fellow reds think has been our best keeper? Reina, dudek, Westerveld! Then we have the the signings of the potentially great young keepers who for whatever reason failed to live up to expectation, David James, Scott Carson, Chris Kirkland, not forgetting the ever rotated Brad friedel! Or maybe Brucey, and Clem. We are due a great keeper, I still hope it's Karius, and he comes back a new man, confident, keen to work hard on his decision making and concentration, and certainly if I was him I would want to prove myself firstly to myself, the manager, the fans and ram Didi's criticism down his throat!

I seem to remember people saying that Karius should be given a run from Christmas until the end of the season to prove that he was good enough and we wouldn’t need to buy a new keeper.

I’m not going to say any more.
