Question for ed001 if you’re around mate

If what macca says is true and that Butland will join, how do you see him fitting in? As number one or back up?

Cheers mate.

{Ed001's Note - I am not here to answer questions about what Macca says. There is no point commenting on it as we just end up getting morons abusing us editors or trying to set us against each other. I have no interest in that at all.}

Some games he’ll be number 1, others he’ll be backup. 🤝.

Will start off as a backup for sure. Karius will be our first choice GK next season. However, Butland comes in if Karius' form drops, a bit like what happened with Migs and Karius this season.

Karius has played well majority of times since he has came in so the Butland link is strange especially with there not being a lot between the keepers. It would probably be easier to digest if we were bringing in a world class keeper. However if Klopp has taught us anything it's trust him and his signings. If Klopp wants Butland then so do I.

Just seems odd getting a young relatively unproven keeper. Karius has done well, and I want to give him the shot he deserves. But, if his form does dip, having butland will Be better than mignolet yes, but he's not exactly safe hands coming in to steady the ship.

Can’t say I’m overly impressed by the potential signing of Butland but what do I know 😂 I didn’t fancy the ox or mane or salah if I’m honest lol. trust in klopp he hasn’t done bad has he 😉.

I think at the moment Karius is probably in the same frame as butland. Is there any point in getting him? two goal keepers at the same level?

If we get a gk it should either be pure back up for Karius or a clear number 1.

I would be ok if we have karius as no.1 next season but get a good centerback in. Looks like Matip might be on his way out or something.

£40m for Butland is a waste. Just add the extra £20m and go for Alisson or Donnarumma.
I'm surprised the club would be dumb enough to pay that much.

Is that the donnarumma that the Milan fans are trying to drum out of the club due to the mistakes he's made?

Trust in the club and let them decide. They've been pretty good recently so I've no reason to believe this is a bad signing.

You need two good keepers he'll prove his worth.

Unlike other positions GK doesn’t get rotated every week. So if butland wants to sit on the bench then he is an idiot!

Everyone seems a bit underwhelmed by us possibly signing Butland, if we do then I’ll reserve judgment but agree that I think we should be setting our sights a bit higher, i do feel for Ward who will no doubt leave without getting a chance.
If we were to buy a keeper from those teams relegated I’d look at Ben Foster. Not as an option for no1 but as the older 3rd choice back up if we are indeed looking for such a thing.

If liverpool are forking out £40 million for Butland as suggested by some then you can be assured it won't be to sit on the bench.

Fair enough Ed, totally understand mate.

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate and sorry.}

Relagated players have a losing mentality why do we always get them? It's a bad buy, there's no shortage of Top keepers it's worrying that we haven't got one. City, UTD, spurs, Chelsea, Spuds. all better keepers than Liverpool.

{Ed001's Note - Lloris and Courtois have both been poor, not sure how they are better. There is a shortage of top keepers, there has to be. Otherwise they would all be top keepers. Only De Gea, Oblak, Neuer and Allison have been top level this season.}

No worries ed, personally I’m sceptical of Butland as a player and would be a bit disappointed for Karius if we did get him, as I’d rather we went all out to get a top class keeper ie Alisson if we were fork out a fair few quid for a keeper.

However if we do get him we’ve got to give Klopp the benefit of the doubt and support the lad fully rather than ruin his confidence as is the case with so many fans on social media these days criticising players. Hopefully he’ll turn out good and fulfill the potential he was showing a few seasons back.

Jack Butland is a fantastic keeper entering his prime. He is up for the England team and has ambition. He has not moved to Liverpool to be the back up. If you think that you are a moron. Think before you type. Karius has improved massively but he still makes mistakes, too many. Weak punches, misses catches and always parries the ball back into Play. Unfortunately I think karius will be back up.
Everyone knows liverpool need a keeper. It looks like our recruitment team have chosen Jack butland. I think it's a good choice.

Bit harsh calling people morons if they don't agree with what you think, the pressure with playing at Liverpool can affect players, personally I have been eager for us too sign Butland since last summer so im glad, if true, he signs, this will make him the England keeper for the next decade I hope, Karius still has the nervous aura round him and back up is about his level for us if we want to really challenge for the league, imo.

I don’t think it’s fair to include Neuer, he’s barely played this season. Granted he’s a top keeper, but he couldn’t really have shown it this season.

Neuer top class this season? he's only played a couple of times.

{Ed001's Note - and was he good or not in those appearances? Just because he was injured does not mean he is suddenly crap.}
