Won’t be near 30m and he’s not better than Karius. A keeper who can actually come an catch the ball is invaluable. That with his shot stopping and ball at his feet has made me very comfortable with Karius.
Not conceded in 8 hours of football at home. Karius is doing a stellar job. Butland will be a back up, if he’s not then I’ll be disappointed, as in no way shape or form is Butland an improvement. He’s a very average goalie.

The one time I’m hoping you’re wrong though haha as far as a goalkeeper goes unless we’re going for top class I don’t see many keepers being better than karius and worth the money, He has his faults but I don’t see butland as an upgrade. Nice one Macca but what a weird one that is. Does Klopp want competition? Is he a backup or going in as first choice? Maybe he just doesn't value the keeper as a particularly vital position for his setup and doesn't want to splash loads of cash. Definitely more questions than answers with that one, but who knows? Maybe he'll come up trumps again. His other signings have worked out alright.

Thanks for sharing your info Macca, really appreciate it. Can't say I'm convinced by Butland but a couple of seasons back he showed a lot of promise so maybe Klopp's genius extends to keepers too and he can get it out of him. As of now I'd think he'd be Karius' back up and he's at least better than Navas, it would be a massive vote of confidence in the direction of Karius. Maybe Butland surprises us behind a better defence and becomes no.1 we'll just have to see.

I’m happy with Butland. Karius deserves a chance to establish himself as our No. 1, signing someone like Allison or Oblak automatically relegates Karius to be the backup. Butland is still fairly young and talented, he can push Karius to be our first choice, Karius either steps up and continues to improve or Butland proves himself the better goalkeeper, either way we will have a very good goalkeeper.

He looked a belting keeper a couple of years back and was arguably the best keeper in the league until his injury in 15-16 season. He’s not been as good since his return but if he can rekindle that form we have a top keeper on our hands, people forget he’s only 25 which is a pup in keeper years and has scope to improve. Big step up from Mignolet imo.

Did say arguably, and I can remember a discussion with my mates at one point that season about who had been the best keeper that season and Butlands name cropped up from a few people. I think he got Stokes player of the season that year anyway.
If we sign him I think the transfer fee will be interesting, I have seen anything from 20-50m being brandished about, if it’s 20m or close I don’t think it’s a bad purchase, if it’s towards the high end then that seems crazy.

Having been a goalkeeper for 10 years or so I always watch them with interest. sorry to say Butland is no improvement on Karius, top half club keeper, not title challenging teams. Probably made the most mistakes out of every keeper this year. Not great.

When he comes we should always be behind him, have you not learnt anything from the ox and mo signings, people always putting them down before the get in the door. One thing I will say is that a lot of former keepers turned pundits rave about Butland. He must have something even if he hasn’t shown it this season.

my 2c,
- I am backing karius to continue his progression towards becoming a truly world class keeper. So wasn't keen to see that we sign Allison or Oblak. yes, having a world class keeper is obvious, I'm just saying that I am prepared to see that Karius comes good after this promising back end of the season.
also didn't want to see another young prospect come in similar to when Karius came to us. so the happy balance was that we bring in someone who has some first team experience, can play (obviously) and will come in to compete and push with karius for the #1. I don't know if Butland is all of that, but I would see him closer to that compared to oblak or allison.
I'd be ok with butland coming in.

Everyone moaned about aoc, Robertson, solanke and even salah.
Trust our recruitment team, they do know what they're doing.
Butland has conceded a lot this year because he played for Stoke = relegated.
Vvd is the reason for karius's great home form.
