Has Solanke just played himself at least into contention in Kiev? What a goal! Assisted Salahs goal, some lovely flicks that should've created at least 1 more goal. I've backed Solanke so strongly all season because i just thought he had sonething about him. He had never really played in the strongest XI though. He always came in when the frontline was decimated or people were being rested, and usually as a late sub too. I've felt all year he was often the scapegoat for overall disjointed performances. Today, he showed he has the quality to link up with the very best, and seamlessly. Very excited for his future with Liverpool.

On the bench in Kiev yeah, not starting.

Here here!

But let’s not get too carried away right now as it was a game that was ideal for him to play to his strengths. Let’s just hope he takes the confidence from scoring his first goal for the club and uses it to score many many many many more for us!

Red Sandman.

Probably not. There is a huge difference between Brighton at home and Real Madrid in the Champions League final. He did have a good game, though.

He could potentially come off the bench but I cannot see him starting.

Solanke done well in world cup behind Calvert lewin in a slightly deeper position I didn't see game today but I am hoping he played in a deeper position sounds like he likes too link play up with flicks an touches an using his strength, hopefully a slightly deeper position is were he can progress.

He played well but I wouldn't go into the final against Madrid with just two in midfield.

How many goals is that for him this season? I would not be getting too carried away. On the bench and no more. Will only get on if we are looking a goal or winning 5-0!

Imagine a 0-0 at extra time and he scores the winner in 119'. Woah. Tho I am sure it won't be 0-0 at 10' :D.

He played because Milner wasn’t able to play today. If milner is available for the final, Solanke will be benched, good he got his goal :)

Rover it is 1 goal and 3 assists in 5 starts. Is that so bad from a 20 year old? We can't judge him on the other 15 or so ten minute cameos at a stage where we are usually playing 40 yards deeper with 3 centre backs, and Salah and Firmino aren't on the pitch.

When he starts, he has the ability to impact games. I'm not saying he should start against Madrid. Just that he has put himself in Klopp's thoughts for the game. The alternative is a 3 man midfield of Hendo, Milner and Gini. I'm not sure I'd categorically say that is the best option. Milner has looked shot to pieces the last 4 games He's played in.

MK, I think that it certainly gives Real something else to think about.

Thought the lad played well. He’s got a lot of potential. Well taken goal and a nice assist.

Of course he won't play in Kiev, but great to see him finally get a chance. And by that I mean playing with our best players. Probably safe to say that is the 1st time he's been on with the 3. Worked very well too and he linked up well with all. 2 weeks til the final, miller will likely be OK and I'd even say Lallana will be tested hard in the meantime to get him ready to start before Solanke would.

MK, I share your optimism as I thought Solanke was brilliant today. A goal and an assist? Can't argue with that, man. He showed some Bobbie-type flashes with his lay-off's, nutmegs and flicks to get runners ahead of him free. Solanke is NOT the finished article yet and those slating a 19 yr old in his very first season as a pro, is just pathetic.

All in all, I like that formation that Klopp put out today and the 4 up top spread BHA's low block out and the passing lanes were there to be exploited. This is definitely something Real will be aware of esp. with a defence as porous as the one they have. I know he won't start in Kiev but he will be useful off the bench cos this game will be MASSIVE for his confidence.

Doubt he’ll start, I think we could write the starting lineup before today’s match.

Don’t think Solanke will start against Real Madrid but it was certainly interesting to see how effective the 4-2-3-1 was against a defensive team at Anfield.

Having Solanke upfront meant Firmino could run the play from slightly deeper, and Solanke was always a presence ahead of him without needing to have Mane and Salah always cutting in to provide a threat in the box. That meant they could stay out wide more often (especially Mane) which meant we stretched their defense better (and got in behind their fullbacks far more than often) than the usual 4-3-3. They didn’t know whether to spread themselves wide and cover Mane/ Salah or to sit compact and risk those two cutting them apart.

I personally think we’ll go 4-3-3 against RM as the possession will be far more even and we can counterattack with our front three having more space to run into, but against the likes of Brighton next season we could well see the 4-2-3-1 being used more often, especially at him. We don’t need three midfielders in those sorts of games.
