Morning Ed1I feel your pain, I had a touch of the runs not to long ago, hope you feel better soon. Question for you if you don't mind. You said we are targeting a deep lying playmaker and Coutinho mould replacement to go alongside Keita but if the likes of say Oblak and Becker were available would you personally dip into the piggy bank and go for one of them or stick with Karius?

{Ed001's Note - I personally would go for a world class keeper without question, if one became available, yes. You have to, the keeper is a specialist position and there are very few truly elite level keepers. You only have to look at how much difference having one has made to Man Utd over the last few years.}

I totally agree mate but why do I have this horrible feeling Klopp will stick with Karius. Please tell me he has at least considered/ considering bringing in an elite keeper? Our front 3 is sorted and by what you have been saying recently our midfield is on the way to being sorted, now adding a top keeper and we can start thinking of challenging for the league.

I think Karius has the quality to potentially become one - but his performance in the CL Final may ultimately decide his future at Liverpool. Big pressure game for a young lad.

Thats the dilemma Octopus Garden, he could well turn out to do something similar to Superman AKA De Gea but its not often when you get a transfer window were a few worldclass keepers become supposedly available. Attacking is not our issue its the defense and keeper, if we add a worldclass keeper we essentially have a spine with VVD, Keita and the front 3.

Do you have a particular keeper you think we should go for ed? In the semi Alisson didn't seem particularly world class but then I don't watch Italian football and that's not exactly a large sample size.

Karius will never be worlds class in my opinion. He's ok, improving, but has none of the hallmarks of a top class stopper. It irks me when people say about how De Gea was awful when he first came. He wasn't. He got bullied at crosses and was quiet but was an excellent shot stopper, had brilliant one on one skills and had amazing reflexes - the best traits for a top keeper. The rest came to him with experience and confidence but he was born with the stuff that makes him world class. Karius has an ok skill set but shows nothing special in any of them. He has the skill set of a standard Premier League level keeper, not a world class one.

{Ed001's Note - De Gea was awful when he first came, he was fluffing catches and not making stops he should have. He was unsettled initially and never played well at all. His shot stopping was erratic and he would get caught out of position a lot. It took him a while to grow into the position at United, but then he turned out to be a top class keeper. It may irk you but it is correct.

I would go for Allison personally. Oblak looks great playing for Atletico, but he is not exactly put under pressure, nor does he have to do any sweeping up behind a high line. So I have no idea if he is capable of playing that way, but I would not take the risk as it is not his skill set. It is Allison's style to play that way.}

Alonso, it's possible the club just don't think they can get a keeper who's going to be a notable improvement on Karius and that's why we're looking at the likes of Navas and Reina as competition for Karius rather than trying to get a new #1 for big money.

When £30m is being quoted for the likes of Butland, who isn't any better than Karius, you'd really wonder what the point is signing someone at level is.

Aside from established world class keepers at big clubs who we obviously can't sign (de Gea, Neuer etc. ) define an elite keeper for me? Oblak, maybe? Anyone else? I am genuinely asking here, btw, I don't follow European footie as well as I used to.

Allison's been linked and is highly regarded, but aside from the fact he's going to cost us £70m, he's only had one season at top European level. A change of club, language and country might disrupt his form for a couple months and the media and some of the support might get on his back.

Bardzo, De Gea was so bad in the beginning he was dropped for Lindegaard!

Fair enough, I was younger and my memory is a little hazy but I just remember him being a kid, but obviously looking a lot better than most 20 year olds. I may well be mistaken, but in my head was getting a lot more stick than he deserved.

I have heard you say you'd go for Alisson before, to be fair ed. Sometimes you can be made to look ordinary by the type of goals you concede, without playing badly but he didn't look anything special to me in those two games. If he suits our style, that is the main thing. I think Ederson is average as a keeper personally, and has been found out a number of times, but gets the label of being a top keeper because he suits city's style. If Alisson can suit us in the same way then I'm happy for that to happen. He does look big, fast and athletic at the least. I'll take you word that he would be right for us. It is a position we could do with sorting out for the long term.

Bardzo my pick would be either Oblak or Becker both are considered elite keepers although I have seen more of Oblak. De Gea was bad when he first came and got dropped but managed to do a complete turn around. I just think this window might be the only opportunity in years when a few worldclass keepers are available and we should make an effort to get either one of them.

Something Red - If we finish in the top four and win the Champions League should we start being a bit more ambitious and spend the money required to bring in a top keeper? You have seen how hard it is to win the league and I believe we need a good spine to challenge, starting with a top keeper. In regards to elite keepers that are potentially available this summer would be Oblak and Becker, like you said all the other ones are unattainable.

Spot on, Ed and zspecialone. DDG was so bad that Rio recently admitted that he had to consult the senior players at Utd. to see who he would go for btw DDG and a certain Tomasz Krusczak. Yeah, that guy. People have very short memories of DDG's initial start at Utd. He was patheticaly poor and was making more and worse mistakes that Karius made when they both started. You can youtube DDG's mistakes and frankly, they border on the ridiculous.

As for a top GK, Klopp will stick with Karius, IMO and that is clear based on the fact that we are looking for a no. 2 rather than a no. 1. His perf. in the CL, should not a deciding factor as NO coach places such a condition without considering the other games that came before that, IMO.

Oblak is not good enough to play in our system. He plays in a VERY defensive system at AM with a deep-lying defensive line. We do not play that way so he is a non starter. Allisson is a good shout BUT he ain't worht the money Roma would want and Monchi has said he will stick us for every penny possible should we go for him. Butland ios just a joke so all that said, KArius is the guy and we will have to dea with that.
