Hopefully Navas is just seen as an experienced back up to allow Mignolet to move on.

Karius is growing on me. He may have conceded 4 against Roma, but he could do nothing about 3 of them, even if Dzeko's was partially his fault. Cut the man bun off though lad. It did wonders for Firmino 😂.

Sorry to disagree MK but he is not growing at all. You mention he was at fault for one goal. I’ll agree with that, it was a tame shot that he should have caught, never mind push it out straight to Dzeko. Over the two legs he got lucky twice. Firstly, Kolarov’s shot that he fumbled on to the bar. Much worse than Mignolet’s against Chelsea but Mignolet never git lucky. His second stroke of luck was when Dzeko was wrongly ruled offside and he came flying out for what should have been a penalty. Nobody has mentioned getting beaten at his near post for Dzeko’s goal at Anfield, the goal that ultimately brought them back into a game where they were dead and buried. Not an easy save I agree but a better keeper would have closed down the angles to smother that chance.

I agree that he had improved, but he had no other way to go from where he started. His decision making is woeful, ie Rondon! s equaliser for WBA. Goalkeeper is a priority if we are to kick on even more next season,

I was impressed with how he handled the situation myself MK, its easy to forget how young he is and that was probably the biggest match of his career so far, he was at fault for dzeko goal ( I agree with ed001 on his view on that) and yes he still has room to improve but what I like about him is he is quick off his line, his kicking is generally very good and he is coming to not only punch crosses away but actually catch the ball but then releases it quickly, I think there is plenty to work with but he is worth sticking by, at least EVERY shot does not go past him a la mignolet, lastly the man bun has never been a good idea but maybe im just jealous as my hair disappears with each passing season.

Is he bad? No would I want an upgrade? Sure but what a lot of people see as an upgrade, butland et al, I’d rather pass. Only replacement I’d like to see would be top class, Allison, oblak etc and I don’t see them as very likely so I’d be happy to give him longer, he had a tough start being dropped etc and seems to deal with her admirably.

I agree not convinced by him but to be fair Allison Becker wasn't great either also oblak had his moments against arsenal. BT sport's said oblak best keeper in the world at the moment. Not for me man utds David de gea is best by a distance. I'm not sure if klopp is looking for another keeper but they are all making mistakes at the moment.

I would like to see him sent out on loan with a world class class goalie joining, ward would be no2 for me.

I don't want us to sign Navas or any other goalkeeper. Let Mignolet leave and Ward as number 2.
We should only sign Navas if Ward leaves also.
For those asking us to sign a new keeper, who can we realistically sign that's better than Karius?
DDG? Neuer? Oblak? Alisson? Ter Stegen?

Thanks for the replies and healthy debate lads.

I agree it is an area we could upgrade, but only marginally (and at great cost) unless we can get Oblak or De Gea who are the standout keepers with Buffon retiring. I'd stick with what we have if we can't get them. Karius is young and getting better. He's not world class, but 25 is a baby for a keeper!

Cesar - I’m not sure what you mean by an upgrade? It’s important that we try and develop players not just buy the finished product like Utd.

I think being a goalkeeper at one of the big clubs is a thankless task generally speaking. If De Gea started for us now as he did for Man Utd originally (he played 37 starts and conceded 43) the fans would have probably destroyed his confidence and he would not become the goalkeeper we all would take in an instant. I think Karius shows signs of improvement. He has only conceded 28 goals in 29 appearances (with only 13 conceded in 17 in the EPL) this season and is starting to develop a relationship with the defensive line that I hope will get much better. I'm sick and tired of chop and change. I'd simply like some level of stability and for fans to stop crucifying every mistake as if any player in the entire history of the game is perfect.

Ddg got plenty of stick at utd when he first come. What stopped the stick was he started to fulfil his potential. He also had the mental capacity to ignore the nonsense and crack on with his career.

Karius overall has impressed me, coming in when he did has been a huge boost to Liverpool. If we'd of kept with Migs I think it's almost certain we wouldn't be in final at this point, Karius and the defenders have changed the team for the better. They look like a proper unit. I really like Karius, I think he's here long term as #1.

I mean of course if we could get Allison then I'd love that but the chances imo are slim to none. The price he'd cost for a position that isn't in need of an upgrade, it'd be pointless. We need other positions to be upgraded before the GK.

Karius as we all know has had a few shocking moments but that's the point, very few. Migs had them every bloody game, Karius is a huge upgrade on the position and will only get better, 25 is no age, he will improve as he goes on and I see us sat here in 10 years applauding his time at Liverpool when he's about to retire. I hope so anyway.

Karius most defiantly needs replacing, alongside Lovren and Gini if we want a real shot of the premier league.

{Ed025's Note - its hard to argue with that lancaster..

A position that isn’t in need of an upgrade, Salah? Goalkeeper is the most important position in the team, as a poor keeper can undermine everything everyone else does.

Also, I think you are massively exaggerating on both counts when you said Karius’s mistakes are few and Mignolets were every game. Earlier I mentioned 4 from the last 4 games.

Karius is no worse than de gea was in his first season. No idea if he will get better or not a la de gea, but it’s wirth waiting to see. Unless we’ve got 100 mil for Oblak.

He's done ok, no more, no less. A few good saves, some confidence with crosses, but we've been used to Mignolet for several years. What Karius is doing now is no more than any keeper should be doing at this level. I'm up for giving him time, but he is nowhere near DDG or even Reina in his prime and is unlikely to be either IMO.

I wouldn't want Navas anywhere near the club. Shocking keeper, no presence in the six yard box and is easily dominated at set pieces. Makes too many mistakes which cost goals. He is no better than either of Karius or Mignolet. We should give Karius a chance to learn and get better, which I believe he will.

Karius is a upgrade on migs no doubt about it,
But he always looks like he's got a mistake in him.
If we're going to challenge for the league next year
We need to get the best if possible. It's the first place I hope we strengthen.
