I really hope we keep Milner beyond the summer. He is such a bundle of experience and for me the most proffessional player we've had in years. One of the reasons TAA performed so good, was because he had good cover from Milner who dropped deep to close the spaces between the fullbacks and centre backs. Plus the Boring James Milner twitter page always give the most hilarious post match analysis in the eyes of James Milly Milner.

I'm of the same opinion. He's done well in the CL this year too, assisting 8, only Neymar and Rooney have equalled that. Rooney back in 13/ 14 with 765 minutes played, Neymar last season with 797 minutes played and we have Milner doing it in only 454 minutes, it must count for something. I'd love to see him stay but I can't see it personally. He's a true professional and just get's on with it, he is great for the youngsters imo, it's a shame because I really do see him departing in the summer.

Fully agree. He may not be a super brilliant technical player, but he provides important leadership through work rate, discipline and a readiness to do whatever and play wherever he is asked to. He exemplifies what team work and teanm ethic is all about. He's entering the twilight of his career, and it's quite normal for him to be given increasing defensive duties. I wish he would accept them and stay.

I think Milners and LFC's biggest issue is he's one of our top payed players but is not a regular starter. If Milner leaves then that would free up a massive chunk of money to further increase a player like Salah/ Firmino's wage or to invest in new players wages. I think if Milner was offered reduced terms then that would be ideal for the club. However I think game time is a massive motivating factor for him and I just can't see the club being able to offer or garauntee it for him to want to stay.

Doesn’t make sense to let him go just because he is a high earner. How much would we need to pay for a new signing to replace him in this market? 20m plus wages.

He has been excellent all season bar a few poor performances like anyone else. Fingers crossed we can keep the rest of our midfielder fit!

I'd say Salah has been excellent all season. Milner has had good and bad games like the rest of the midfield. But saying he has been excellent all season is way over the top. I never said we should get rid of him just because he is a high earner but can the club honestly afford to bring our 3 best players Salah, Firmino and Mane onto the same clarity of pay as players like VVD and Milner, especially with Milner only being a squad player. Yes a very good squad player but still not a starter. Far more established players at other clubs have taken reduced terms to stay and fight for their places so I don't see why Milner shouldn't be offered that same option. Or is a team going to come in and offer him 180k a week. For me I think he wants week in week out football like Lucas in the summer and I don't think we can offer it to him.

Exactly Redroon. They all played their part on Wednesday but his experience was vital in the middle and he had a barnstormer. If he wants to go for lower pay somewhere else to get more games then fair play, it just shows what a professional he is, but if we can keep him I'd be much happier. I'd rather Can, Lallana and (I'm sad to say) Wijnaldum went before him.
