Solid.
Efficient.
Professional.

the best thing about the 2nd half, no drama.

Er, I don't know about all that, Faith cos after the first goal, we were kind of messing around a little bit and were all over the place a bit defensively. This led to Saints finding the overloads on either flank and had it not been for Karius foiling Hojbjerg at point blank range, there would have been fire on the mountain. I do agree that in the second half, we were everything you described above BUT let us learn from that period in the first half and improve on the second half. YNWA!

Same thing I was thinking, a professional performance.

A good 3 points. Lallana even got some more mins. Keeping on Man Uniteds tail. On to Porto midweek lads!

Great save that from Karius, and at a important time. Hope he plays on Wednesday.

Not a spectacular performance but a very professional performance so I'm happy with that. A good way to win ugly.

Robertson was awful i thought. I counted 3 clear goal scoring opportunities in a about 20 minutes as a result of him not looking over his shoulder at the back post. Could of cost us the game but for two stunning Karius saves and a weak header from Ward-Prowse.

Can was also poor; too slow in possession, and lucky to only be booked once. Arnold was caught napping a few times, Ox was trying the Hollywood pass too often, and Mane was just a bit hesitant in front of goal. There was one poor throw out from Karius if I'm being very critical of his performance.

Aside from that, it was a decent team performance overall. I have to admit that whilst I'm not their biggest fans, Wijnaldum, Matip and Virgil were all very calm and assured which led to us making easy work of the second half. Firmino and Salah were just magical though in that first period. Better duo in the league? Possibly De Bruyne and Aguero? Nobody else comes close.

Lallana i will add, looked very good when he came on. Though it is debateable whether he should've been picked after his u23's antics, at least he put it all to bed with a more mature cameo performance.

Agree MK except for the Matip comment. I thought Matip looked fragile pretty much every time they attacked. My heart stopped when he decided to let that ball drop in the first half when they headed that corner back into our box. Luckily the Southampton lad was offside.

I am not Wij biggest fan but think he had a decent game today, hope he keeps it up looked to go forward bit more, turned on the ball and passed forward. Much better display from him. Karius did all he could be asked made a couple of good saves kept a clean sheet what's not to be happy about :)

I agree Jordz. Matip also thought he was in a judo match for his booking 😂 i just thought he was good by his usual standards. He saw him break a sweat to cover at right back, at one stage! 😲.

A good game from Karius too, poor distribution once or twice but also made some decent saves. I love the way Vvd is constantly communicating with team mates, defence feels so much stronger now, the blood pressure was not as high as it has been watching Liverpool trying to see out a win. A pleased fan, they will be purring over Firmino and salah on motd2 tonight.

They targeted our full backs and that has been one of our weakest area. We couldn’t win any first ball or second ball during that period. Constant pressing means Karius had to go long which we couldn’t win. A lot of things to learn especially the need to two solid full backs in the summer.

Southampton had a couple of chances in 1st half but it wasn't much considering Shampton where actually trying to use the ball well in 1st half. We strolled it at the end of the day.

Not a Vvd fan mk? You're usually correct in everything you say but I think he is a fantastic signing. We feel like a different team defensively now and that is since HD came in. No disrespect mate, we all have our opinions. I also think gin is the type of player you need in your team, we have a very good win rate with him in the team.

Saint's did have some good clear chances! Sometimes, we all know, they go in.
Comfy game I suppose, but let's keep it real, on another 'one of them typical Lpool days' it can and does go wrong!
However 👍👍✌✌⚽️.

All good points MK, I think I’ll post with grown ups as Jcrow Junior seems to think I don’t know what I’m talking about over on the kiddies match post pages where I have posted identical comments to this thread 🙄🤐.

I agree with plenty mk. Matip was dreadful though. Shame Lovren couldn’t start. Could have really helped him mentally. Love Robertson’s energy but his decision making is awful. I’m still worried about his def capabilities but overall, I think his work rate brings the best out of the lads around him. Sorry, Gini is a lost man. Best performance from vvd. Little bit of composure needed at the back. Can was fine today, nothing spectacular. Taa is learning still but I wonder has he lost a little confidence on the ball. Salah was terrific and Bobby is a genius. Karius is looking better and better. I just can’t understand why klopp didn’t start him months earlier. Where might we be then? Probably second. If we can have a few runs without conceding it’ll set us up nicely and able to defend a lead would serve us well going forward. One thing, when Milner came on I began to get nervous but for the first time in an age, we didn’t look any worse and there were no gaps. So credit where it’s due. Lallana should be banned but apparently an assault on a kid is nothing these days, he looked lively and quick on the pass which is good to see.

They were all brilliant, 2 nil win none conceded, two points behind united. what's to gripe about, not much really.
