I saw a post yesterday about someone asking for Mahrez and saying it might not be popular on here but they would “SETTLE” for him. Settling is exactly why we’ve bought some poor players over the last decade.

Let’s have a poll and you can only choose one option, not mame up your own to suit your agenda:

A) we settle and buy a Mahrez type player
B) we wait until the summer when klopps first choice is attainable a la VVD and Keita.

Like it or not that is what we’re facing, So why don’t we stop bitching about it and get on with supporting the club.

To all those who are folding and saying our season is finished, you’re an embarrassment.

Option b all day 87red people are thinking mahrez might get us a couple of points and that might make the diffrence but then we are 50mill + a wage bill further from the player we should be signing we are liverpool fc unfortunatly we need to prove to great players we are worth coming to and that means a good run in champions league and top 4 this season proves it is no fluke when you get there two years running we are still building no i can't completly buy into what klopp is doing i do support him i just wish he would address the defence issue more with a defensive coach than new players.

Have to wait for the summer. Don’t think a thing has changed since Coutinho left. It’s been more about attitude. I’d be incredibly surprised if we somehow managed to place out of top four this season so why pay a premium for players now instead of waiting until the season when all they can do is get us second (which I’m fairly certain we’re going to do regardless)

We’re playing poorly and teams are exposing our weaknesses in midfield, defence and goal, and they’re doing far too easily. Losing to the bottom two teams in the league in quick succession is appalling to say the least and after those performances, it’s hard to see where our next win will come from because I see no creativity or defensive ability in that alleged midfield, so it is reasonavly foreseeabile that fourth place could disappear, and the rate we’re going winning the champions league a mere pipe dream. Simply saying keep the faith and hoping it will all work out isn’t going to work.

I would replace Lallana with Mahrez
We have offloaded Sturridge and unless Lallana can stay fit and available he is not contributing to the team
Rather like having a Ferrari in the garage which won’t start.

I would be option A, simply because in the summer the excuse will be “we can't sign top class players because we are not in champions league”.
You can’t stand still while our direct competitors are adding quality to their weak positions, which then makes them stronger. We are not 10 points clear from 5th so the arrogance in thinking we will just turn up after selling our best player ( so minus at least 7-10 important goals and assists) and still finish 4th is beyond me. It’s too big of a gamble and the sense of defeatism/ loss of selling Coutinho is huge. We need to sign someone that can at least make a difference and ease the pain of losing a talisman.
Just ask yourself this question, would the clubs of Kevin De Bruyne, Pogba, Hazard, Kane or Sanchez sell them in Jan without a replacement been already lined up? I don’t think their fans will allow it!

Wait until the summer when Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea are looking forward to next season's champions league!

I agree aoe, not a lot has changed without him in the squad, he did barely bugger all this season anyway. I'd also go for option B before panic buying a player who could prove to be a flop.

I actually think Mahrez would be a good addition, I don’t know enough about his off field antics but on the field he seems back to his form:of 2 years ago. I don’t think he’s as creative as couts but he’s a great dribbler and more importantly he’s great with deadballs. I think against teams that park the bus that’s far more important than trying to get someone to open them up up as we know we win enough corners and free kicks to win games twice over- we are frustratingly in effective from set pieces.

C) work on adapting the tactics to counter the opposition when they have worked you out.

87 red it was me who suggested Mahrez but this was not as a cure all issues nor a panick buy i just think with couts gone AL struggling with injuries Can does not want to be there he is better than what we have. Its no use in planninig for next summer that will take care of its self but with the uncertainty regarding MO plus if we don't make top 4 how easy do you think it will be to make top signings we will just be back where we were 3 years ago.

{Ed001's Note - Coutinho played on the left or centre, Can plays central and Lallana usually plays central, in what way would a right winger be a better option?}

B

We have a fantastic squad. VVD, salah, mane, keita are all big time players that we can add to in the summer. If we bring in 4th or 5th choice players just for the sake if it, that may help depth in short term but then we are saddled with their contract for another 3 or so years and probably no takers. I like our patience.

Eds 1 do you not think Mahrez could play central behind a front three and interchange thus having two siting behind him? I think it would work well. Sadly i can't see this being an option.

{Ed001's Note - he has played there but I would not touch him as he has shown a poor attitude.}
