Ed, can we have a poll 'do you want to sign a new keeper this January or would you rather stick with Karius? '
I'd go for the latter personally purely because he deserves a run of games to prove himself.

Liverpool Keeper Poll

1.) 15 Jan 2018

Looks like Karius visits this site and is voting for himself.

2.) 15 Jan 2018

Karius for me too. Give him time.

3.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 22:19:29
Now that he’s in for the season I’ll give him my full support and really hopes he takes his chance. I fear the worst though.

{Ed0333's Note - I really can’t see how most people can’t see how Karius is better than Migs in all departments. Do I think Karius is brilliant? No he’s not? Do I see him as our No 1 keeper next season? No I don’t but ffs sakes people he’s better than that the imbecile we’ve had for the last 5 seasons. I fully expect a shiny new keeper in the summer until then let’s give pretty boy some support and you never know he may just surprise us.

4.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 22:19:56
That’s a bit embarrassing Klavy. I hope you are not judge d the same way in your life!

Give him a chance he deserves bavking and support.

{Ed0333's Note - hear hear mate

15 Jan 2018 22:21:28
Don't see why everyone is so against Karius - would be happy if we sold mignolet don't want to see him on the bench even.

{Ed0333's Note - yep

6.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 22:24:49
It's a terrible shame some of the so called fans were down on him very badly at the start of the season because the guy really needed a full season to gain experience and boost confidence in himself and others around him.

Give him the chance he deserves he has a lot of excellent qualities.

7.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 22:22:23
Your not going to get a decent keeper in January so obviously go with karius and see what your options are in the summer.

8.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 22:51:58
Please call me up on it if I'm wrong come the summer but I really believe Karius will come good, I think he will come good enough to a point we're not looking for a new GK. Many will disagree which is fine but I think with confidence on his side (should us loyal fans support him) and regular playing time, he will learn from the mistakes he makes and really impress us.

I have really high hopes for him, I just don't like seeing people insulting him like I have seen today, this will only push him backwards, he will lose confidence and we might end up with Migs again. Let's stand with him, he's one of us, he needs our support let's give him it. Sure there's a chance he will fail, this happens, if he does so be it, he still doesn't deserve to be insulted though.

9.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 23:03:48
Squiresy, I said I’d give him my backing and support and hope he comes good. What’s embarrassing about that?

I’ve been critical of him and for good reaspn because he hasn’t shown anything yet when he's played. He’s the only goalkeeper who I’ve ever seen kick a goal kick out for a corner and just don’t understand why so many on here think he will come good.

I’ll be delighted if he does. Mignolet is nothing special but I think he is better than Karius. Yes, Mignolet’s had 5 years and I feel that if we gave Karius 5 years we’d be talking about him in the same way as we do about Migs now.

Nothing against Karius, it’s just an opinion. For the first time in years I feel we are going places and both keepers have the potential to jeopardise that. Personally I feel we need to spend what it takes to fill this vital position.

10.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 23:04:44
I voted for Karius. Reckon we wouldn't be able to sign anyone that much better immediately.
That being said, then why not give the lad a good run, he just might do well.

11.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 23:06:43
Surely a new keeper to come in wouldn't replace karius and it will be migonlet moved on.

People say karius needs to do better but it is hard to do better without the run of games. So the critism is harsh.

12.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 22:40:29
Spot on, Ed. Karius may not be experienced and maybe needs better
coaching and games to show what he can do BUT those who say Migs is better have IMO, become numb to his mistakes of which the Arsenal one was the last straw, IMO.

People have been against Karius cos they expected him to become DDG from the off and when that did not happen and having been traumatized by the Migs' horrible LFC career as a whole, they fear the angel they don't know and trust the devil they know. This is why you hear fans saying Migs' is slightly better than Karius whereas Karius would not have lasted a season let alone 4, had he been as dreadful as Migs for 4 seasons. Now whenever he plays, it's like people want him to make a mistake so that they can say, "I told you so". Pathetic reasoning, really.

I'm just happy Migs' is history so we don't have to deal with him anymore. Now it is time for Karius who will be auditioning for the position, take his chance and run with it. He will fail or succeed by his own hand and that is fine by me.

{Ed0333's Note - exactly fella I mean at the very least he can’t be worse than Migs at best we’ve found a new No 1, well probably get somewhere in the middle if you ask me.

13.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 23:14:31
Karius for me. Clearly better than Migs for me and deserves a run of games to try and claim the shirt. That said I do expect a top class keeper thos summer, however if Karius can replicate the life d of form that made us buy him then maybe other areas can be strengthened. Klopp is one to give players a chance as well so here’s hoping he can loose the nerves and step up.

14.) 15 Jan 2018
15 Jan 2018 23:49:17
The timing of us having vvd and starting to play Karius is a little harsh on Mignolet. But I'm not a big fan of his. Hopefully karius just needs games and confidence. Wish him all the best.

15.) 16 Jan 2018
16 Jan 2018 00:10:10
I think John Achterberg is as much of a problem as anyone else. His arrival coincides with Reina's dip in form. Mignolet hasn't really improved since coming in and Karius is a bit shaky.

I think Karius could be a really good keeper but it's clear that the position will be revisited in summer. Mignolet and Ward don't have a future, Karius will need to take his chance now or he will be replaced. Fingers crossed he does, he has all my support.

16.) 16 Jan 2018
16 Jan 2018 01:06:11
I voted for Karius, look at robo, majorly doubted by 99% of fans. Had a couple of games an looked rubbish, but now he has had a decent run of games he is really starting to outshine Moreno who was having a great season too (by his standards anyway)

I don’t understand why people think the same rule of 'needing a run of games to settle and be at pace' DOESN'T apply to goalkeepers. They still need to be up to pace with the game.

1 thing which has me worried.
Has Klopp made him the no.1 now to play him in the league games, with butter fingers (Migs) playing in the champions league? I seriously hope not xD
Karius for EVERY game we play now. I hope 🙈.

{Ed0333's Note - well said mate

16 Jan 2018 02:30:15
IMO Migs needs to get sold in the summer (if not sooner) as he’s proven he’s not what we need. The side looks better with Karius in it - both keepers make mistakes but somehow the CBs seem to be more sure of their positioning, and whether Karius is coming for the ball or not and that’s a big factor in the overall defence. Ward should be backup but Karius should play the vast majority of the games for his confidence. Then in the summer we can look to bring in a new no.1 if he hasn’t made the position his own.

As for the coach, I’m sorry as I don’t know the guy but Achterberg has to go. If I was the head of the worst performing division in my company year on year for 6-7yrs then no way would I survive, some fresh blood would be brought in. I don’t know if it’s the players, the coaching, his inability to guide the selection decisions or just the inability to inspire confidence, but he’s clearly not helping identify the problem and address the situation and that’s his job, to fix the situation, and he’s failed. I’d bring in the best available GK coach ASAP. hopefully that would freshen things up, add a new perspective and help Karius’s confidence and then they’d be settled in before next season starts.

{Ed0333's Note - there’s a lot of sense being talked today. Fully concur my good man.

Probably be Mignolet back between the sticks on Monday.

19.) 16 Jan 2018

There are basically two opinions of Karius. The first is 'he's not good enough either'. These guys are over critical of the keeper and focus on his mistakes but they are desperate to see Liverpool improve one of their biggest problems and are frustrated that Klopp has wasted another couple of years on a keeper that's done little to suggest he's anything but average.

The second opinion is 'he can't be worse'. The guys who think this are also desperate for Liverpool to fix it's biggest flaw but they're ready to accept pretty much anyone due to they're dissatisfaction with Mignolet. They overlook Karius' flaws and use arguments like 'he was the second best keeper in Germany' and 'the CBs are much more confident with him' both of which are sketchy arguments at best.

I'm in the former camp but I'll try to give Karius a fair run when he plays. I actually think he was fine on Sunday but fine is what we get with Migs most games. If Karius is going to have a Liverpool career that lasts longer than another four months he's got to be good and I don't think I've seen that yet.

{Ed001's Note - actually there are 3 - I don't know if he is good enough or not but I am willing to wait and see how he gets on.}

20.) 16 Jan 2018
16 Jan 2018 07:38:52
Spot on, SG. Corelation may not be causation BUT the trend lines you stated cannot be ignored. Karius was THE reason Mainz made EL footie for the first time in their history in 1'5/ 16. The guy was a top talent and no. 1 for the Germany Olympic team (along with Brandt, Meyer, Goretzka etc) . He comes here tho he broke his hand so that slowed him down BUT in any case, he looked clueless and and don't recognize him. Same with Reina who declined and so did Migs who got poorer as time went on. If we don't need a new GK then we definitely need a new GK coach.

21.) 16 Jan 2018
16 Jan 2018 08:15:38
You can’t compare leagues. It’s chalk and cheese.
I don’t think playing games eliminates technical flaws like positioning and catching. The only thing playing games COULD improve is confidence. However, if he keeps making technical mistakes he will keep getting exposed by pundits and his confidence could get worse.
Why do I think playing games does not eliminate technical flaws? Exhibit A - Simon Mignolet. He has had these flaws since day 1 of his career in this country and still has them today despite a very long run of games.

Karius needs coaching. He’s not going to get it at LFC. Therefore we need a new keeper. I don’t care if it’s now or in the summer, we can’t win the league this season so it might as well be summer, BUT we have to set up the deal now as come the World Cup it will be doubly difficult.

22.) 16 Jan 2018
16 Jan 2018 13:13:39
We should give all our players support and should not be insulting them whoever they are, Karius, Migs, Lovern Moreno all of them wear a liverpool shirt and try their best and should have our best support. If Klopp decides to bring Migs back in, then there will be a very good reason and we should respect that. I am all for giving everyone a chance, and willing to accept these chances may cost us points and may eventually cost us a champions league place. Do you?

23.) 16 Jan 2018
16 Jan 2018 13:58:22
Hey Ron agree with this part
‘Karius needs coaching. He’s not going to get it at LFC’

The technical errors need to be coached out and yet we don’t seem to ever see our keepers improve - hence why we should be replacing our coach. Hopefully one would bring a fresh set of eyes to the issues, and give Karius the confidence that comes with learning and improving.

24.) 16 Jan 2018
16 Jan 2018 21:07:30
Ron, so by your logic, it is the GK coach that needs to go and not Karius or Migs then cos if your bright shiny GK comes in and has the same GK coach, he will get worse like Reina, Migs and you guessed it, Karius has been after being good where they were before they came to us and you will then be in the same boat again.

25.) 17 Jan 2018
17 Jan 2018 12:17:17
SGRed, I don’t think it’s the coaches fault to be honest, Migs has and always will be rubbish, and Karius has has to be on the receiving end of Bobby, Mane and now Salah and the Ox (previously Couts too) in training. Poor lad probably can’t do anything to stop any of them scoring against him in training 😂😂.
