Only 2 points separating us from 4th and 6 separating us from second.

Considering the up and down season we have had, that is not too bad.

We have qualified for the next round of the CL unless Spartak can overturn a massive goal difference and we have yet to lose in the group stage.

Overall, it has not been a disaster of a season and still many games ahead.

City steamrolling at the moment and a cut above the rest. Season is still alive and far from over.

Keep the faith.

Spot on, Max. Spurs for example, have been dreadful in the PL since they beat us as we have gotten 10 points from 12 and Surs have gotten 4 points from 12. I don't see their fans losing their minds and questioning Poch.

I wish many of us altho frustrated with the result, show some perspective and big picture thing on the season cos really bar City and to some extent Utd, every one else in the top 6 have been up and down so all we have to do is realize that we are in the mix of top 4 REGARDLESS of all our issues (which is a small miracle in itself) so we have to focus on each game and give it 100%. I expect a strong lineup vs Stoke and hopefully, we can get a win.

Its head to head record in CL group stages, If Spartak record a slender 1-0 win over us, We are out.

Ok, missed the head to head record. We are at home and we have coped pretty well in the group stage.

Draw sees us through and we are at Anfield.

The harsh reality is that we’re closer to Everton on points than City.

At the end of the day we can only really judge the season at the end of it. As it stands 6 points off 2nd doesn't sound too bad but also the fact we have yet to break into the top 4 this season also tells another story. Yes we are very much on the brink of the CL knockout stages we could easily be pushed into the Europa League. CL group stage we have only beaten Slovenian oppositon this season in the group stage. Top 4 and a trophy would be a very successful season but we are also just as likely to end up with neither as we are with 1 or both.

your right Max only 2 points from 4th place, but here is the thing, we should have got them 2 points on Sat, or V man ure, who only wanted to park the bus,
the truth is that right now we are off the pace, not in the top four cos we don't have enough points,
I am not blaming Klopp, but we were in front the last two games and should have won both,
I have heard that he was annoyed about not being able to bring on a sub, are we the only team that has had this problem,
Mane def should have been on a lot earlier, Sturridge on too long, a defender should have been brought on to shore up the leaking defence, while Chelsea threw everything at us, Klopp did not respond to their very offensive subs,
it was not to right time to rest two of our best players, Wed night would have been a better time,
that said, its time to move on and grab 3 points from the Stoke game, who are struggling at the moment .

Tottenham have the same points now as they did at this stage last season, when many said they could win the title.
Most years of the Premier League Man United's points tally would have them clear at the top at this point.
That takes the top two out of contention as they are playing well or grinding out wins.
We are doing well so far this year. Defense is not as bad as the pundits make out, but we do make more individual errors than most because we don't have a true leader back there.
I look at the number if chances we create and wonder just where we would be with a proper goal scorer up top, as well as Salah. He is scoring so many, yet misses even more, it's frightening. Against Sevilla we created something like treble the chances they did, but came away with the same number of goals.

No need to be negative, we are doing well. We were 5 minutes away from top 4 in Saturday. My only issue, and its small, is that Klopp does not use his substitutions quick enough. We could all see us dropping deeper and deeper from about 70 mins against Chelsea, and Conte was making subs to up that, but we waited until 80+ minutes to react and it cost us the match.

One thing is for sure, our matches are entertaining.

Wat do we expect our squad is sixth best in league I ain't surprised we never strengthened the obvious areas in summer, all them teams above have players with big time character in I notice ours hasn't an I don't think klopp likes a challenge in that way say a ibrahimovic, David luiz, delli Alli, Sanchez, ozil, players with arrogance I believe these type of players although problematic they are winners, we need more character!

City wi have their dip as well,

We need to concentrate on improving our defence and keeper,
Ward and Robertson must wonder if they will ever get a game,

Someone will have to explain to me how keeping Ward from a loan at another Prem side is beneficial to us and the player?

Thought that was Ron for a second. I’ll be happy with top 4. Knock out stages of champs and a decent fa cup run atm. Keita to come in. Hopefully use to coutinho money to get the right cb and gk in. Keep salah and mane and give Klopp another go next season.

I agree with your posts, Andy BUT the whole Klopp-subs stuff to me is a red herring. When we scored vs Chelsea, Wiji came on ASAP to help the midfield. That regardless of the result, was a good sub to make. The Lallana one is to me going by what Klopp said, is bizarre and I know Lallana was ready to come on BUT for some reason, the ref kept delaying it.

Same with Seville. When we were under the cush after the second goal (2 mins after the first), Klopp put on Milner and Can to stabilize the issue and to some extent, it worked and would have had the last goal not happened. What I am saying is that a negative result, does not mean that a sub was not the right one to make at the time it was made. The examples I posted proves that. At the same time, you can make a wrong sub and still win and the fact that you won does not make the sub a good decision.
