Ed001 in particular, be interested to hear your views on the recent vote in which Liverpool fans voted in favour of safe standing, is it a generation forgetting about the dangers or are the proposals really the beginning of seeing safe standing again?

{Ed001's Note - there is no such thing as safe standing - 2 died just yesterday in South Africa in a crush. It is more than just a generation of people who are looking back with misty eyes and thinking it will bring back the atmosphere. It is also a bunch of kids who have never experienced it and have heard their elders talk about it forgetting about the crushes etc that used to happen every week. People somehow are stupid enough to think standing will bring back the atmosphere, despite there being no chance of the atmosphere returning while there is 90% of people busy filming it on their phone. That is a bigger problem than sitting.}

Thanks ed001, I must admit people using phones is my biggest bugbear, photos are fine but how often to people re-watch these videos, wish they just use their own eyes and appreciating what they saw. Rather than share it for a like! Plus there is the phones getting in other peoples way. (Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant)

I have only been to one game where it was standing but I wouldn’t want it back at Anfield out of respect more than anything else.

Atmosphere does need fixing but I don’t believe this is the way to do it.

{Ed001's Note - I hate the selfie fascination as well. Watch the game if you are lucky enough to be there. Be a part of it, not watching it through a screen.}

Ed in reference to the crush at the Johannesburg stadium, the deaths occurred outside the actual stadium at one of the entrance gates in, via a stampede, that's the info im getting here. What im trying to get at is, is it dangerous as in the standing seats will allow more people to fill the stadium so will cause these stampedes and with standing seats is it generally first come first serve in England like it is here is S. A?

{Ed001's Note - yes, exactly, more people, more likelihood of crushes. In seats they have to have a ticket for a specific speck, with stands you don't get that. There is also the fact that you are cramming more people into a smaller area, which increases risk. It only takes one person to trip and there is mayhem.}

ED001, Im sorry but i disagree. The incident that happened yesterday in south Africa had absolutely nothing to do with safe standing, The incident occurred at the gates of the stadium with flocks of people who had been sold fake tickets trying to get into the ground. People need to realise that supporters will stand either way. It is far safer for both people who want to sit and people who want to stand if both are allocated sections in the stadium. Safe standing isn't the terraces of old and is currently working outside of England. Standing in an area designed to be safe if far safer than standing in an area created for sitting. The real question is do people want to stand safely or stand unsafely. Only one answer for me.

{Ed001's Note - it would be safer if the morons who think they should stand got booted out to stop them blocking the view of everyone else, the selfish pricks. They seem to forget that they are not the only ones who have paid.

Look the point is this is ridiculous, people die in crushes, regardless of whether it was standing or not yesterday, the incident was still highlighting the difficulty of large crowds of people entering small areas. It does not matter how 'safe' the standing is, people are still utter morons and they are still selfish aholes who will push others out of the way because they are in a rush and think they are more important. That is going to cause injuries, regardless of whether it is outside or inside, the more people in a smaller area you have, the worse the problems are.

Your whole point was based on just saying idiots should get their way, which is not how it should work. Until people have proved they can behave and treat each other with respect, then you are always going to have problems. That will never happen, so there will never be safe standing.}

100% agree with Edd on this. Nothing worse than a few idiots spoiling things for others.
I really hope the owners do not go through with even one standing area.

Rail seating (the type of standing that was polled) is incredibly similar to normal seating - people are still given a place to stand (with the same amount of spacing as a normal seat), it just allows the lack of a proper seat. Rail seating makes it physically impossible for crushes to occur on the terrace, as there are barriers across every row. As you've said, people die in crushes regardless of standing or seating - these incidents are not happening because of how people choose to digest their football.
Saying that there won't be safe standing because people are idiots doesn't make sense, these idiots are already going to the games and sitting in a seat, so surely these crushes should already be occurring?

Do you actually know what safe standing is?

Your not going back to taking all the seats out of the stand. You are just putting bars in front of each row and keeping it exactly the same but so people can stand.

We need to start learning about things before we start commenting.

The kop won't turn into a 60k stand.

Just when you stand, as already happens, your seat will go back and there will be a big metal rail in front of you so you don't fall forward and into peiple and cause a potential crush. So confused when people think there captain Wikipedia and are just completely wrong.

Also sitting down is relaxing hence why you don't Netflix and stand. It certainly kills the atmosphere because the match becomes more of a movie only getting happy when something good is happening. Standing up keeps you on your toes and more likely to sing and be more involved in every aspect of the game. Why usually the away fans always crush the home fans in singing. They always stand.

If there is a 1% increased chance of someone getting hurt it should not be done. Football is a game end of the day, and the people in charge should be doing everything they can to protect the fans, not risk there health and loves for more money.

I agree with that ED, My point is simply as much as people will say they shouldn't stand they always will. My view is based on my grandad who 4 years ago broke his collar bone at the back of Anfield after he got knocked 3 rows forward after a goal was scored. People will stand, especially at the back of the kop, I just want it made so people who want to stand have their own area and people who want to sit like my grandad can do that without being forced to stand dangerously to watch the game. This for me isn't about the atmosphere its simply about making it safer to watch the game whatever your preference on sitting or standing is.

{Ed001's Note - like I said, you don't give in to morons who refuse to listen. That way anarchy lies.}

I think spirit of shankley had a really good discussion with all views being heard. People in the kop stand, therefore safe standing is much better than seats. For atmosphere its clear than standing singing is much better than sitting down singing. I'm glad the kop is standing. Let's make that as safe as possible.

{Ed001's Note - I really have no interest in discussing this with someone who makes up nonsense in their head. There is nothing 'clear' about it at all, other than people's misty-eyed reminiscences of a past that never actually existed. The atmosphere out in Asia over the last few games has shown that it is nothing to do with sitting that Anfield is crap nowadays.}

Just to touch on the "a hole" ed comments.

I was at the carling cup final against city when we lost on pens.

I was sat upper tier about five rows back. So fairly good view. There was a group of 15/ 20 guys (not kids, youngest would have to be in the 30s - most probably a tad older) sat in the first two rows who refused to sit the entire game. It never directly affected me as they were a good few seats over but there were families and kids behind who couldn't see jack. None of them where one bit bothered. When challenged they told one guy, in full view of the kids around, to feck off and other such wordings.

Just thought I would share in light of the "selfish pricks" comment. Which I throughly agree with.

{Ed001's Note - that's exactly the kind of thing I meant.}
