Hi eds and fellow reds. 1st thing, I'm very happy with the deal for salah coming in to the 1st team. but please can you give me any info on the knock on effect it might have for one of the others regulars in the team? As in, who would you say will miss out on a starting place or do you know if any one of them will be sold? Thanks for your time
And effort you people put in for us fans! 👍🏻

Magsy.

{Ed025's Note - just my opinion magsy but i think wiji may be the one to miss out mate..

Can i promote my pennies worth? I have a feeling Emre Can will go, which will lead to Wiji having the freedom to peruse that slot in the middle. I know he is a slightly different model to Can, but I do think he has more of an alround game.

I would like both Wiji and Emre to be part of the "squad" being as we have the Champions league to contend with, but I'm a little concerned at why the contract extension has not already been signed. This makes me think he will indeed move on.

If we sign a left back then I suppose Milley can do the job for 2017/ 18.

Hope gini doesn't miss out!
I think it will be lallanawho misses out.
with Hendo (when fit) and either gini or can I'm the middle.

Hendo
Coutinho lallana
Mane sturridge/ firmino salah.

Wiji is solid and more reliable than can. I can see them perhaps sacrifices can to free up some funds and room in the squad. Although I rate emre but still young and inconsistent.
Best case he stays and fights for his place.

Don't think anyone will really miss out in the current first team, long old season with a *hopefully* lot more games.

Gini might start the season on the bench but least klopp will have strength in depth, have better subs and can pick and chose who to play based on form.

When I mentioned the other day that I wouldn't be too worried if Can was sold I was hammered. I didn't mean I thought he should go, just that if decent money came in for him, he wouldn't leave a huge hole. Unless Hendo continues to struggle for fitness and Klopp sees Can as a natural fit at the base? Barrmun suggested Lallana would miss out, can't see that at all, Klopp clearly values his contribution. Let's face it, we have oodles of flexibility in the middle and forward line. Let's focus on the defence now surely?

im feel like in a midfield 3,

Coutinho plays when fit.
Lallana/ Gini compete for a role, or both when Coutinho is not available.
Hendo/ Can compete for a role.

but then again, it could just be a case of the best setup depending on opponent.

It will be Emre wijnaldum and Phil as the 1st choice midfield. Emre and wijnaldum were our best midfielders last season and their partnership has developed hugely and played a huge role in getting top 4. Lallana was beyond average from January onwards and Hendo cannot be relied upon and Emre suits the 6 significantly more than Hendo, his passing is too safe and slow and lacks any penetration into the forwards. Hendo suits the box-box midfielder role as he plays on instinct, he thrived in this role in the 13/ 14 season, where his runs into the box, energy and athleticism improved the overall midfield.

Nobody is going to miss out. Next season is going to be a long one with 60 odd games coming up so there will be plenty of game time for all players in the squad. The first 11 selected will depend on the opposition and their tactics so we could see the likes of Lallana, Gini, Sturridge and Salah being used and rotated depending on the situation. Coutinho, Firmino and Mane imo are the only 3 offensive players to be guaranteed starters.

Agree with ED. think Wijnaldum will be on bench. Emre Coutinho Lallana midfield Salah Firmino Mane forward. leaves us with a handy bench in Sturridge Henderson and Wijnaldum plus whoever else. Henderson may be in instead of Emre but im liking how its all shaping up either way.

Seeing as Hendo is our captain, it is likely that when he is fit, more often than not he will be in the 1st XI rather than captain the side mostly from the bench.

Hendo has to be the first name on the team sheet when fit ofcourse. I will go all out and say that Henderson is the best CM/ CDM we have.

14.) 21 Jun 2017

Hendo
Coutinho Lallana
Mane Firmino salah

That would be my first choice, although with injuries and rotation I still see Wini and Can getting plenty of minutes.

Classic that we are debating who will be left out before the season has started. And by the first international break we would have had our first flood of injuries and then we will be talking about which Academy players to give a chance to haha. We are developing great depth squad, that is good.

16.) 21 Jun 2017
21 Jun 2017 07:49:36
With the way our injuries pan out and the amount of games we'll play, nobody will miss out for long.

JK likes to tinker with his formations, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a double pivote with two from Hendo, Can and Gini. Smart runs into the box and at least one good passer on the pitch.

Couts and Lallana competing for the spot as AM.

18.) 21 Jun 2017
21 Jun 2017 09:09:29
I think everyone, even Couts, will miss out on a semi-regular basis as players are kept fresh for our charge to win 3 cups and the league.

21 Jun 2017 09:50:20
Last season Klopp had a first choice 11 who played every league game unless they were injured. The question is whether that was forced on him by circumstance or by choice. Going into the season I'd place good money on Hendo, Couts and Lallana starting. Hendo is our best player in the deeper role, couts is our best player and Lallana is the living embodiment of how Klopp likes to play football.

I see the others getting a lot of game time due to the number of games we have but they will be rotation players.

We need to get away from this idea of a first 11. One quality player coming in doesn't mean another has to miss out or leave. Football is a squad game, it's not about a first 11, it's about having 18-19 quality players to pick from. The 11 that start the match will depend on numerous factors, such as the opposition, whether we are home or away, how many games we've played that week.
Hopefully we will do well in the cups and Europe this season meaning we could play 50-60 games, we will see rotation a lot it's how the modern game is.
the great thing for us going forward is that we are now adding quality depth rather than merely numerical depth. One game we could have Hendo, Couts and Wiji in midfield, the next due to a different type of opposition could be Hendo, Can and Wiji. Similarly up front we have Salah, Mane, Firmino, Origi, Sturridge, and Solanke fighting for 3 places.

Surely whoever deserves to be in the team will be in the team. If Wijnaldum is in better form than Can, he plays and vice versa. No one should be safe and everyone must perform to deserve a place in the starting line-up.

Popa and two cents, most would agree with you but last season Klopp had a defined first 11 who played if they were fit (the exceptions being when karatsw was dropped for Migs and when Wiji came back in for Can) .

Klopp may well have to change this approach next season but I imagine he'll have a first 11 who he'll play as often as he can.
