Not made any comments on this site since before the start of the season but just sat back and watched what I expected and indeed predicted - huge negativity, criticism of transfers before they even got chance to show what it takes to become part of a team, etc then almost instantly followed by excitement and now "over-optimism" as the team gels and starts to perform at pretty reasonable level!

You know, it is unfortunately human nature! Mr average has this tendency to think so short term, to moan one minute and to get over excited and expectant the next.

Move this up a level to the average boardrooms and we find similar characteristics - after all the directors are also mainly Mr Averages. All too eager to sack managers on the back of a few negative results without giving time to install an approach and build what this sport is about (and that is a "team" based on a "squad" not a set of individual players or worse 'egos') .

I said I thought Klopp's dealings were good ones but I also said it would all be dependent upon his ability to get a team to gel and that is no different to any team sport or even team in a business environment. We just had to trust and offer time rather than criticism! Decent (not necessarily the best) resources will almost always perform better in a team environment than the very best if the former are motivated and the latter are troubled in some way (e. g. Fighting to be the top dog, etc) . I predicted an ego clash at Man U (perhaps even hoped) - early days but I see some trouble there?!

Now Klopp, and the board supporting him, have a long way to go and I am not going to sit here getting over-expectant due to a decent start (and I know we always have a "Burnley" still in us) but to have written it all off up front and then to go totally the other way now just proves to me the level of hypocritical judgement that exists in the average person.

It's been entertaining though to read, I give those that have contributed that credit!

Excellent post. Not that the modern day fan will pay any attention to it, they'll be too busy finding something to whinge about!

Well said L8, we'll have our ups and downs but overall heading in the right direction with a clear philosophy, an enthusiastic coach, some outstanding talent and a team culture that can be the difference in a tight race, let's just enjoy the ride!

We are moving in the right direction, I think that the game at Swansea showed more positives than negatives, that was a hard won game and showed the kind of grit needed to get top four. There were far more positives than negatives, Henderson was (again) brilliant, Milner was great at left back, our attacking players were hard to contain in the second half. Only fault was the goal and we were slow out the blocks. But these are things we can work on. Bring on the mancs!

Thanks for the comments all!

Interestingly I see that all those that pressed the "disagree" button have some fear of making comment. Perhaps we'd be able to look back at their posts and see the type of hypocracy I was referring to in full flow?! 😊 YNWA!
