I agree. There is no real correlation between price and performance. A top player that suits the team - someone like Mahrez in Leicester, wouldn't you say that he is worth 35M or even 40M? On the other hand if a player struggle scoring and don't produce many assists, like say Lallana, you will probably say even 20M is too much. I also think that as long as we can afford it it is worth paying few more mllions to get top quality players.

Fair point Richie although I think firminho cost around 40mil.

In the summer there will be a big clearout with money raised and wages saved.

Bogdan - free
skrtel - 8-10 mil
toure - free
allen - 6-7 mil
markovic - 8 mil
Lallana - 10-15 mil
benteke - 10-20 mil
Balotelli - 10 mil
Luis alberto - 6-7 mil

Anyone care to add to that.

I'd like to add that we won't get 10 mil for Balotelli. lucky to get 10k.

Just because a club can afford to spend 40m on a player - and it's by no means clear that lfc can do that, by the way - doesn't mean you should.
For every 32m Benteke there is a Vardy who cost peanuts in comparison. For every firmino there is a mahrez. And for every texeira there is a delle alli- but the less said about him the better.
And every pound saved by finding a bargain player saved can potentially go towards those expensive established players where the big fee just has to be paid.
The club has to work as a business, or it won't work at all eventually.
So our scouts should be looking for the emerging stars, the gems still unearthed, etc, as well as the big names.
Wenger was a genius at it- fabregas and henri are just two examples of his shrewd eye for a bargain player.
Can and Grujic look like examples of good value players- if we eventually sell them on, we will sell on at a good profit.
Lallana and lovren are glaring examples that we can still sometimes get it wrong by paying inflated prices, and lfc will take a massive loss if they sell either.
38m for texeira is in the same ball park as the fees paid for ozil and sanchez, and personally I think it is just a bit too much for what this player offers.
I would tell our scouts to do their bloody job properly and go find another player of similar qualities elsewhere.
Dont let's have the club's trousers taken down again.
There are clubs who can afford to keep on doing that forever, but we're not one of them.

{Ed001's Note - Henry was a French international and Fabregas was offered deals by half the Prem, they are hardly examples of picking up a unknown bargain!}

Until we get rid of our distinctly average scouting team, we will continue to sign below average players, or pay over the odds for any decent ones.
