Hey Ed's, I was wondering if there was any truth to today's links with us and the Spanish lads Olmo and Callebros. They both do strike me Klopp type signings.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t know what has been said but the interest in Olmo does not include Liverpool. Ceballos is a CM player - I cannot see they need him.}

It is as clear as daylight that we will not be signing any midfieldrs.

Backup versatile forward most likely to arrive. Possibly a LB as cover and a GK only if Mignolet leaves.

If the likes of Salah leaves which ain't looking likely then do not expect fireworks.

Well if we don’t upgrade/ freshen up our midfield then we’re going to struggle to keep pace with Man City. We need more creativity, pace and a goal threat.

I’d take any 2 of the following

Fernandes
Maddison
Havertz
Doucoure
Tielemans
Coutinho

And I’d let Lallana and Milner go.

Macca mentioned we were interested in Ceballos this time last year so maybe we could be back in, but to be fair probably click bait.

Casey? You'd let Milner go?!? Not a hope, he's been unbelievable for us. May be one of the older players but his work rate and running is 2nd to none. A quality player at that too. He'll be staying. MR RELIABLE. Can play anywhere in the middle, right BACK, left back, heck he'd probably be or 2nd best keeper! He's invaluable. even Lallana if he goes its because the club don't think he will regain his fitness, but when fully fit he was our best player, granted we've moved on a bit from 2 years ago. However fans are crying out for a quality competitive squad. Don't let quality leave when it's so hard to attract players willing to fight to get in the team. Right now that's the level of our starting 11, nobody in world walks into it.

I agree with some of what Casey is saying above (not Milner going, he is a great one to keep around the team in terms of work rate and ethic, he sets an example), but I agree we need to strengthen.

It’s fantastic we won the champs league, but we all want a prem title now and thinking we can do it without improving the team is nonsensical. We didn’t win the league last season, we were beaten by city who are already improving their squad in the transfer window. We need to not just match their improvement we need to do more, otherwise we won’t beat them to the title.

I think we have the best front 3 in football at the moment, and Origi is good as a back up but we need another.

We need an attacking midfielder as we don’t get enough goals from midfield, and who can create chances for the front 3. We also need another strong defender to partner VVD in my opinion

Do I think we need massive changes? No, do I think we can and should improve the first team, absolutely, if we want to beat City to the title.

Wouldn’t let Milly go in a million years.

Wouldn’t want Maddison at all, he’s a dyed in the wool United fan.

Viseroy, maybe in a million years, Dunno how much he'll have left in the tank then, must be some magic ribena he's on.
Kdfirst. I'd guess Gomez is seen as that quality cb to play alongside Vvd, matip and lovren are decent backups too. Our midfield don't score a massive amount of goals but why do they need to, we plenty, we lost one game in the league last season! Also Ox will be back and very capable of scoring, Keita was also brought in to chip in with goals, hopefully he pushes on.

I'd love a player to play in the front 3 but who is capable and flexible enough? Also who do you drop, when fit our front 3 play. They will want to play every single game.

I’m sorry if what I said was sacrosanct but keeping Milner because he can play left back sums up why we won’t win the league. I’m not questioning his attitude, professionalism or work rate but I’m a dinosaur and would prefer all my central midfielders to be able to pass, run, tackle, create and score goals.

We have a midfield full of work rate, stamina and fitness but urgently need creativity.

{Ed001's Note - Milner can pass, run, tackle, create and score goals.}

Lol Ed I couldn’t have said that better, although only stating matter of fact!

I have no idea who Casey has been watching.

There is also something to be said about what a player does to raise the spirits and attitudes of his team mates and his ability to do that even by his attitude and work rate alone is clear to anyone.

We have plenty of quality in the midfield. If Ox and Keita can stay fit and play near their best this season, there are no midfielders out there who we can buy to improve our first team.

We scored 97 points last season without our best 2 attacking midfielders (Keita's season was heavily disrupted) . So we have reason to be optimistic.

It's really the front 3 and LB backups we should be worried about.

Coutinho?!

We are twice the team without Coutinho. Everything had to go through him, which slowed us down. Happier with things the way they are, thanks.

hhanif005 agreed! Decent back ups for full backs, particularly left back and a versatile attacker. Midfield is probably overstocked if anything. Fabinho is a starter everyday and wouldn't swap him for anyone. Ox and keita will be pushing for the more advanced role. And could anyone actually look to replace Gini after the year he had. Then we've only got our club captain, milner, lallana.

We can't let Milner go. He's going to win the Ballon D'Or when he's 46.

I’d let Lallana go and replace with someone more capable, as I can’t see that he adds anything, not Milner though as he can play in a few positions and is a leader around the place and never leaves the pitch haven’t not given his best. I still think we’re short of an attacking midfielder who can create or score from nothing. We drew seven and lost one because our front three were blocked out and we had no answer to break those teams down.
