Sorry if it's something you've touched upon recently but how is the interest in players we are looking to off load or themselves looking to leave. Moreno, mignolet, Grujic, Sturridge, Lallana, Clyne, Ings I presume will go through. Or any other players I haven't mentioned. Thanks for all the work I presume transfer season will really kick in and get silly after the final.

{Ed002's Note - (a) Benfica want Morena as their first choice is proving hard to get and Fenerbahce are keen - Lazio have moved on to another target, as have Napoli. (b) Bounemouth, Norwich and Brugge could be priced out of a move. (c) Hertha, Torino and Werder Bremen want loans as Liverpool have priced him out of a sale. (d) Nothing firm but interest from Australia. (e) Nothing firm. (f) Clyne is of interest to Bournemouth, Napoli and West Ham if the price is reasonable. (g) I would think so. (h) There are loads of others as the club are now looking to buy success as the academy players like Connor Randall, Harry Wilson, Juanma, Masterson, Whelan, Allan, Tagseth, Ojo, Kent, Adekanye, Awonyi etc. no longer are see as a fit for the club.}

Thanks for the reply. Do you feel any of the youngsters given time could push for positions in the squad if not starting 11. Or do you feel Liverpool are trying to capitalize on their position at the moment by signing players that may be more interested in joining us now than they may have a few years ago and this will be at the cost of the youth being given time and opportunity.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have seemingly given up on the youngsters.}

I think it’s difficult and sad at the same time, sad because I do agree with Ed002 we have moved away from that youth development.

But it I think given the issues with money in the game “buying” success seems to be a solution, as much as I’d like to see us push youth the demand for success is ruining that.

Liverpool and Klopp have not moved away from youth development.

As the club gets more successful a product if this is of course that it is harder for a younger player to find a position within the squad. Youth recruitment and development within the u23s and u18s must keep up to meet the demands required by the management team.

We have a player that will be part of the first team squad next season that could meet these demands in Rhian Brewster. Others mentioned also have a shot.

1 player every 2 seasons good enough to impact a squad like ours from our support setup is a massive achievement.

Current first team players Gomez and TAA. if the kids are good enough they will get the chance.

We are now a club that's competing at the top end of the Premiership and Champions league, so to bring players through the Academy they have to be special. TAA is proof that if they are good enough they will get an opportunity.
All the top clubs have a similar view. did the final the other day have any players brought through their own system?
We are still trying to bring young players through, or buy young players we can develop, that are better than the young players we already have.
I am with Ed02 on the opinion that Paying 70 million on players to compete for a place in the team is madness.
Look at Gini after coming on against Barcelona, he said he was angry with Klopp because he was on the bench and he has come out again and said he will be angry if he doesn't start on Saturday.
It his great that he has that in his make up and wants to play, but eventually he will want to leave, than become a bit part player.

Plenty of clubs spend money on players, Liverpool are far from alone in that.

Juanama was thought highly 2 years back. Now he is on the way out? . Ed001 can you give insight on this?

{Ed001's Note - he suffered injuries and never reached his potential or hasn't yet anyway.}

Liverpool's development of young players has been good, but not necessarily good enough to get many of them into our starting 11-17. If it helps us generate funds through player sales which can then be used to help recruit higher class players it has done its job hasn't it? Not the preferred outcome of course, (I know we'd all love to have a team made up of 5/ 6 homegrown heroes like the gerrard / carra / Fowler / Owen / Stevie Mc. era) but not a bad return.

I like the idea of buying the league, but just a shame for us that other clubs have done it better than us. so far anyways . . .

I think we are developing players quite well to be sold to fund the first team, examples

Ibe to Bournemouth
Smith to Bournemouth
Solanke to Bournemouth
Stewart to Hull
Danny Ward to Leicester
Andre Wisdom to Derby

Who would have thought that lot would net close to 60,000,000 in sales? It would be preferred to see them succeed at LFC but none of the above have turned out to be stars since leaving.

If there good enough they will make it, a lot can change between youth football and mens.

Make it a rule that squad sizes (for over 21’s) are to be reduced to 16/ 17 players and that way the kids will be alright. None of this stockpiling malarkey and teams spending huge amounts on reserves. Can’t see a sensible fan in the land not being up for that.

Its pretty simple unfortunately - every year a new bunch of youngsters will come through, but once players mature and join the first team, players can play for Liverpool for many years if they’re good enough. Simple maths means that not many can make it into the first team as opportunities are few and far between.

Pair that with the fact that many juniors will lose their way (eg. simply not good enough, their first pro contract goes to their head, they don’t grow physically, the learn to enjoy partying over training etc. ) then only a very few kids will ever be good enough to play for one of the largest teams in the world.

I don’t think Liverpool are giving up on youth at all as we’ve seen from Trent, Gomez, Brewster. if they were good enough (and lucky enough) then they’ll get their shot. It’s just very few will ever get the chances for many valid reasons.

Danny Wilson too. I remember he was tipped to be the next big CB.

the problem with being a top tier team is that the youth players will get less chances to prove themselves on a regular basis unless there is extraordinary talent.

i still see a good point in recruiting and developing youngsters and then sell them on for a profit.
