it's 2019! and the transfer window has opened! not expecting much to happen but i perceive some things may need to be done pending on outgoings. Nonetheless, here are some thoughts (for the next 2 windows) . Please feel free to share your thoughts!

Goalkeepers
Probable outs: Mignolet, Bogdan, Karius (on loan)
Preference: Would hope that we can secure a solid no.2 that can feature in the cup games and deputise ably when needed. but are there keepers of decent quality that is willing and available to do that?

Centrebacks
Not expecting much to change and am happy to keep things as it is.

Rightback
Probable outs: Clyne, Randall
Preference: In my dream world, Wan-Bissaka. If we can secure him, TAA, Gomez, Fab can cover and I think we'll be quite strong in this area. The down side is TAA would have lesser game time as i think Wan-Bissaka is the better fullback and he'll (TAA) have to wait for his chance in middle of the park.

Leftback
Probable outs: Moreno
Preference: Some names that have been thrown around include Laxalt, Tierney, Chilwell. Personally don't know any good LBs but if we are spending, would prefer someone that can challenge Robertson for a starting spot, otherwise the youth prospects can be given a chance? Would really hope to see Roberston given a rest when possible as he really looks knackered in the last game.

Midfield
Probable outs: Lallana, Milner (if Leeds gets promoted and it appears ever more likely), Pedro, Ejaria, Grujic
Preference: For TAA to be in contention to feature in this position. Rabiot's name has been thrown around and while he's quality, he seems to have fair bit of baggage with him? Would think we need at least one addition in the summer. Not too sure if Allan could return, get a permit and is deemed as suitable for the team (he hasn't featured much this season while on loan though)?

Forwards
Probable outs: Sturridge, Origi, Ings (complete transfer), Ojo
Preference: Will Kent and Wilson have a shot next year? I hope at least Wilson will get a chance. Would hope to add one or two players who can play in any position in the front 3 as cover but who is able, available and willing?

Summary of anticipated key deals:
1) LB
2) RB
3) CM
4) GK
5) Forward.

I see Moreno staying until the end of the season will be interesting though to see if anyone tries to snap him up on a free in January, I expect he will play against Wolves in the FA Cup. I doubt we will have many banging on our door for Mignolet come January or in the summer so I expect him to be backup for next year. I am not sure about Milner moving on, even back to Leeds if they get promoted, I suspect him to be another one to still be here next season unless Klopp wants otherwise. I suspect maybe 2 or 3 new signings next summer at most. As for January maybe one.

I think that’s a pretty good summary, but none are urgent and most are about leavers and backups, so likely to wait for the summer. As Ed02 mentioned (and I agree here) there’s really no need to disrupt the dressing room much in Jan unless something special comes along we can’t ignore.

Of all the positions in the summer, I think a backup GK, a backup LB and a backup striker are most crucial (assuming Migs, Moreno and Sturridge leave) and need to see senior players coming in as we don’t have obvious subs in any of those positions. After that, i think we can probably cover fine with Ox coming back into Midfield and Fabinho able to play RB, so I would like us to just give the kids a chance to step up in place of Lallana, Clyne etc. as they’re only likely to get game time in an injury crisis. eg we can give opportunities to Wilson, Herbie Kane, Brewster, Camacho, Adam Lewis.

I’d say this window most likely to leave for me would be Clyne and/ or Origi. But would say we will probably sell

Moreno, Lallana, Sturridge, and maybe Milner in summer.

In terms of youngsters I think Kent, Ejaria, Ojo, Randall and possibly Solanke will all leave this summer.

Excellent summary mate I'm definetly with you on Wan-Bissaka what a singing he would be. I agree Trent's game time would go down but I believe Klopp would rotate them well and start giving Trent chances in midfield in cup games etc and there would be no need to play Gomez at RB again let him focus solely on improving as a CB. I think its more realistic this happens next year though when a midfielder likely leaves (probably Wijnaldum) and Trent will be guaranteed more game time and Wan-Bissaka is more experienced.

GK I would ideally say Butland as he's English and would be decent back up but honestly don't mind who we get.

On CB reluctantly I would say leave it as is at the moment even though I am not Lovren and Matips biggest fans and 3/ 4 injury prone centre backs is not great its worked so far. Ed002 has mentioned we are looking at young CBs that's probably the ideal signing in that position to cover and an eye on the future as well.

At LB I think Adam Lewis has to be promoted I don't see the point in spending money on a replacement at all unless we don't sign a RB then we'd go for a more experienced LB and send Lewis on loan.

For Midfield if Lallana and Milner leave like everyone expects than I think Fabinho/ Henderson/ Keita/ Wijnaldum/ Ox are great options for the 3 spots. What I'm trying to predict is whether Bobby will start playing more permenantly behind the striker, where Fekir would've played if he signed, in that case I wouldn't sign another midfielder but get a lethal striker. If Bobby is moved back up front then I would get someone in like Fekir. What is confusing me is that I think Ed001 stated Shaqiri was a Fekir alternantive so I'm not sure if we sign a 10 or a striker but the big money will be spent on of those I believe.

The forward area I think we need to put faith in Brewster now have him as the backup ST on the bench once Sturridge, Origi, Ings and probably Solanke leave. We will either have Bobby or a new signing as first choice No.9 and probably Salah as second choice then Brewster to begin with. I'd expext Ojo and Kent to leave permenantly or on loan and Wilson/ Woodburn on another loan with good game time.

I think this a very good potential squad next season.

GK
Alisson, BUTLAND, Grabara

RB
TAA, WAN-BISSAKA

CB
Virgil, Gomez, Lovren, Matip, YOUNG CB

LB
Robertson, Lewis

CDM/ CM/ CAM
Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Wijnaldum, NEW 10, Ox

RW/ LW
Salah, Mane, Shaqiri, Camacho

ST
Bobby, Brewster, Duncan

What does everyone think about this squad and whether we go for a new number 10 or a striker? I really think that's the big singing we will make.

For the Goalkeeping situation I'd look at Burnley at either Pope (less likely due to his break out season last year) or Heaton the older of the two 31 I think. But he has premier-league experience and he maybe even 3rd choice at Burnley. Either of the two and I'd be happy. Mignolet may get a hard time from the fans but he is a better goalkeeper than some give him credit for and he will go to a decent team when he leaves. I personally thought at Sunderland he had a better season than Pickford when both were signed.

In. Wan bissaka, de ligt, rabiot and fekir.

Out . Mig, Matip, Moreno, clyne, Milner (let him go on a free if Leeds come up), lallana, sturridge, solanke.

I've no worries anymore about our club.

We are now 4? Transfer windows into klopp and every single one has been pretty much on point.

Don't think klopp will ever sign more than 4 players.

The club don't seem to be cutting corners either on there top targets.

I think letting de ligt and wan bissaka go anywhere else when we are at the top of our game would be I'll advised.

De ligt and vvd for starters and then we ligt and Gomez. for what 12 years?

Wan bissaka is going to be the best rb in the league. Trent can take over Milner in the middle.

Fekir is a beast and rabiot is a great cm.

Always strengthen when you are the top.

There is talk of lloyd kelly left back from Bristol city, could b another Gomez lower division quality.

9.) 01 Jan 2019
01 Jan 2019 14:01:07
Kelly looks like a left sided Gomez. Tall strong fast and a good tackler. Would Ward even come back do you think any of the Ed's? Surely being on the bench back at Liverpool is better than being on the bench at Leicester. I know he left because of the talk of Kasper leaving but that never came off. Or would you expect him to push for a move away from the King Power in search of a regular spot somewhere else?

{Ed001's Note - he is hoping to get regular first team football somewhere.}

10.) 01 Jan 2019
01 Jan 2019 14:30:43
I know we probably have never considered him at any point. But a player I feel would fit well up too would be Jamie Vardey. Even though he’s pushing on in age his pace is still very good along with his finishing. He could play anywhere along the top and offer great cover for the front 3. Surely at his age he may not cost too much and would be far better off the bench than Solanke, Origi, Sturridge.
But I feel cover for full backs is our priority especially left back. Moreno can’t defend and the fact that Milner would often be the second choice left back says it all. We have plenty of cover at centre back and in the middle of the park. But let’s trust Klopp many of his signings have been underwhelming, yet turned out to be very good and very popular. Robertson, Ox, Shaqiri, Wijnaldum.

I agree Ibiza red he would be brilliant for us, he has that pesky nuisance style that would be boss in our pressing style.

12.) 01 Jan 2019
01 Jan 2019 21:17:35
My argument is that many people want us to buy players that could be £50 million plus and I don’t see that happening. Not that I see us going for Vardey or Leicester selling him to us but I think he would be relatively cheap, may be happier to sit on the bench than many players people want us to sign, he’s english, and I genuinely think he’s a good player and would work in our system.
I think our midfield is fine until the summer, and our defence unless we ship out Moreno then we could do with cover for Robertson.
But in general I don’t feel we need to do anything to this squad until the summer.

13.) 02 Jan 2019

Agree with some of the comments. I actually anticipate about 10 - 15 players leaving this summer (Migs, Clyne, Moreno, Lallana, Markovic, Kent, Ojo, Randall, Solanke, Sturridge, Pedro, etc. ) and am hoping some of the promising youngsters can fill these spots.

I'm unsure if Butland would want to come and sit on the bench at 25, thought Heaton seems possible but am unsure if we have any interest. I will be surprised if Nick Pope doesn't replace Joe Hart if they are still in the PL next year. He is way better than JH.

With the kind of football we play, I actually think we need 7 - 8 CMs to last the distance. Last season we had 6 senior CMs and towards the end, we were short on bodies and fitness.

While I'm all for youth, I think its quite a big risk to rely on Brewster and Duncan only as back-ups for striker / centre forward.

As Ed001 regularly laments, if the window is open for 3/ 4 of the seasons, I would have no issue letting the youngsters have a few months to try out. But if they bottle their chance or is shown to be not ready and we have to go 5-6 months with them, that's a very scary thought for any manager.

Keep the comments coming. Be glad to hear from various ones, even if our opinions differ.

Personally think we don't need to mess around with squad harmony that much.

Gk
Get rid of mings leave Karius out on loan (recall option impcase of emergency) and let the young lads progress.

Full back.
Keep Clynn and start positional training for left back having him in the squad and rotating will be brilliant.

CB
If no on leaves then we don't need to look we have 4 good CB's that most teams would be happy with.

Midfielder.
No change unless there is a creative player out there available.

Wingers.
Look at Jaden Sancho not sure Dortmund will let him go cheap though.

Forward.
If Sturridge and origi are off we should look at Bellotti strong lad has a good instinct for goal decent in the air personally feel he will be a brilliant signing.

We need to be realistic we all want Mbeppe and players of that caliber but do we need loads of big egos all coming in no.

15.) 02 Jan 2019
02 Jan 2019 21:05:06
Ideally a better senior back up keeper, a 2nd LB to challenge Robbie, and a forward who can play up top or out wide, so we can rotate the front 3 with no loss of quality.

16.) 03 Jan 2019
03 Jan 2019 02:21:32
Migs Will leave so we should get a back up keeper I suppose getting Butland will be viable and we were interested in him last summer.
If Clynes and Milner leave we could get Wan Bissaka and start playing A. Arnold more in Middlefield.
If Moreno leaves we can promote A. Lewis as back up for Robertson.
It seems Lallana is leaving so we need a player who can play forward and Middlefield so who can be better than Coutinho who is available.
H. Wilson deserve a chance to be part of the next season.
If Sturridge leaves we still have Origi, Solanke and Brewster but at least one should leave on loan.

Then the team will be like this (4-2-3-1):

Alisson/ Butland
Bissaka/ A. Arnold
Robertson/ A. Lewis
VanDijk/ Matip
Lovren/ Gomez
Henderson/ Fabinho
Keita/ Wijnaldum
Mane/ H. Wilson
Firmino/ Shaqiri
Coutinho/ Chamberlain
Salah/ Origi/ Solanke/ Brewster.

{Ed0333's Note - lots of unreal variables there mate
