Couple of quick questions for the Eds ref Fabinho? I think you said we beat Atletico Madrid to his signature; do you know why the Madrid deal fell through? And secondly, were any other clubs seriously interested at the price being asked? Thanks 👍🏻.

{Ed002's Note - Atletico Madrid turned to Fabinho after their first choice for this summer had shunned them over concerns about playing time. They had also shown interest last summer but the offer to buy him and not take delivery to January fell on deaf ears. They returned a few weeks ago and had held some early discussions with Monaco which resulted in a stalemate as a price could not be agreed between clubs. They returned again to talk on Saturday but they again could not agree a price.

Of the clubs previously interested, Juventus had originally wanted him as a RB but he was not first choice so it drifted away; Arsenal had baulked at the asking price - set high as part payment will be due to Rio Ave, Fluminense and Paulinia; Manchester United let their interest wane, largely because the player wanted a move to Manchester City, and they moved on to another target - who will also not be signing for them; PSG were only planning to use him as cover and thought him too expensive for that purpose. It was made clear last summer to the other sides who enquired (including Liverpool) that he would not be sold until this summer.}

From what I gather PSG wanted him last year but Monaco refused to sell to their rival. Player was not happy but got heas down.
