Topic of Timo Werner.

According to the german media klopp is in talks with Timo werners agent but according to James Pearce we are not interested at all. Any insights?

I think Werner would be an interessting addition to the team but it is very unlikely that RBL will let him go (He said that himself that he thinks that even if he wanted to play for someone else that it is very unlikely that Leipzig will let him go)

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool are interested it woulf have to be as a replacement for Firmino. I know nothing of it.}

Nonsense caused by Jan Aage Fjortoft in a twitter announcement that the press has jumped on. RBL has said Werner will not be leaving.

We won't be signing a top level striker as long as bobby is doing the business, they don't want to sit on the bench especially at werners age.

forgive my ignorance but instead of being a replacement for Bobby could it not be a case of having 2 top players vying for the same spot, great depth and the competition would improve both players.

{Ed002's Note - It makes it difficult for them both - they both see themselves as starters and if TW were purchased and started the season well, what does the coach do. Drop him - no doubt making him miffed, or keeping him in the side - leaving Firmino thinking he should have moved in the summer. If there were to be a change of formation then perhaps there would be a stronger case. Else there is cover in place already and there are youngsters looking for a chance - it is very good as it is. In fact Sturridge and Origi returning would be difficult for them as chances will be very limited indeed - and they will no that.

And I am not aware of Liverpool showing any interest in the player.}

could firmino drop back into a 10 role behind werner.

{Ed002's Note - Sure, but bit of a kick in the gonads for Firmino so it might be a time to see how interested Bayern Munich are.}

Personally i think we have to do everything we can to keep Firmino, so that means making sure he feels safe in his position. The only reason top clubs are not properly sniffing around him, is because he has made it known that he is happy here and wants to stay. There is no one else i would take to lead the line other than Firmino.

Eds putting aside the firmino issue and the fact RBL will not want to sell, how likely would it be to sign Werner considering the amount of interest from the big clubs? Our style of play would suit him very well but I'm not sure it would be enough to stop him signing for the likes of real madrid.

{Ed002's Note - So putting aside Firmino, the lack of interest from Liverpool and his club not wishing to sell, how likely is it he will joining Liverpool? What do you think?}

He certainly fits our criteria. As for replacing Firmino, this simply wouldn’t be the case, they would rotate, as do the midfield and defence. We should always look to improve and he looks a great addition. If Firmino is injured in the next game who starts up top? Ings and Solanke don’t cut the mustard for me. We definitely need more strength up front.

firmino would be a great #10.IF WE PLAYED THAT POSITION! haha, we don't really play that position. he would have to adjust to playing on either wing spot of the front 3 or completely remodel his game as a CM to survive as part of our midfield engine.

I would love to have Werner but get the point that having two starting calibre strikers could be counter-productive. I imagine we are more looking for players who will not be content with time on the bench but also are also hungry to compete. I don't know who those players are, but are probably the likes of Ings and Solanke who we already have in our ranks.

I suppose I was really asking about our chances of signing players who are also of interest to the top clubs in europe, I realise this case in particular my question was pretty stupid.

{Ed001's Note - it really is a silly question because every player is a different person. So for each one of them the answer is different.}

Look at city though, they have Jesus and aguero, with Jesus occasionally playing both up top, sometime wide and sometimes just one. They also have sterling sane and b. Silva.
I don't see why they have to unhappy seeing as firmino can play deeper and Werner can play wide.
Can't help thinking we lose something at the moment if any of the front three don't play, which they will have to at some point.

With the Man City comparison, Aguero was supposedly pushing for a move earlier in the year and has recently been quoted as returning to Argentina when his contract ends. Jesus on the other hand is young enough comparatively that he knows he's going to be the long term starter.

With Sterling Silva and Sane, 3 into 2 is very different than 2 into 1. It's a lot less likely that you'll be in good form and not playing games when you're competing for 2 slots. Add that all 3 players are young and you have a recipe for healthy competition.

As for positions, why would whoever gets moved want to stay here and maybe play an off role sometimes instead of move on and be a started at a club of similar stature in their preferred position?

Yeah, we lose something if someone gets injured, but we lose a hell of a lot more if people start becoming unhappy for reasons that are super avoidable.

{Ed001's Note - Aguero was being pushed out, not pushing for a move, he always wanted to stay but Pep wanted a player to do more pressing from the front. Jesus was never bought to add to Aguero, he was bought to replace him.}

Just to add my point of view on this TIMO WERNER to LFC,
Do we want to challenge for the PREMIERSHIP or are we just happy to keep FIRMINO happy and let’s not upset him. c'mon people it’s about taking the next step and COMPETING, if signing WERNER makes us stronger then so be it, I don’t want to see the COUTINHO money squandered on 3,4 or 5 nearly men. also KLOPP will have pressure on himself next season to produce silverware, he will know more than any of us the price on the ticket. of failure.

{Ed002's Note - And you think signing a player Liverpool has shown no interest in is a particularly nifty idea?}

I don't see it myself, Firmino is doing the business and suits the system. Ings and Solanke are decent cover, in fact I have really been impressed by Ings when he has made cameo appearances. Seems to me to be a player that however good he is, would he get in ahead of Firmino?

I would probably contend that at the moment he wouldn't. Again, if Firmino were to leave, which obviously I would not want as he is a brilliant player (he has all the work ethic of Kuyt, but with exceptional skill), then he would make sense as a signing, but that is the only scenario I could see him joining.
