Just seen on SSN that Chelsea and Liverpool are waiting to see if Arsenal would be willing to sell ox this transfer window. If he's available then 30 million is roughly the price needed to get him in. He's not happy at wing back and that's the role he'd likely play at Chelsea so he probably favours a move to us. It'll be a decent start to what will hopefully be a good few days in the transfer market.

Don't need him n he can't play in goal!

I really don't understand the clamour for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

He's not a bad player, but even in his wildest fantasies, he's not going to displace Mane and Salah from the wing positions, and we need a someone with a bit of guile who can pick a final ball in central midfield, and I don't see how the Ox is even as good as our existing options in that respect, much less better than them.

Are we that desperate for squad depth? Because even if Coutinho leaves and Lallana being out for nearly half the season, I don't see him being in our best XI. And I'd rather work with Grujic and Woodburn as squad players and develop them.

To be honest Gents it doesn't look like we are getting anyone else. Ox wouldn't be my first choice but he's a decent enough player. If he comes in what's the worst that can happen. Might as well get behind him and what will be will be.

What's the worst that can happen? Did you see what happened to Arsenal when they played him in centre midfield or how he got schooled by France's midfield? Frankly I don't want compromises and we've had enough panic buys and make do signings. He simply isn't good enough to improve our starting 11 and is not needed.

Mr Dennis the what will be will be is the fact that it doesn't matter what me or you say it's not going to effect whether Klopp signs him or not. If it happens then the least we owe the lad is our support and patience. Like I said he wouldn't be my first choice and in fairness he would be way down my list of choices but it doesn't look like we're signing anyone else. This window has been the most hyped for years but the disappointment and let down of previous windows is again all too familiar.

Jayden, if we're getting into the realm of buying "decent enough" players, then I'd rather we do it at center back where we urgently need improvement rather than signing a winger who can also play center mid.

We should b thinking defence defence defence.

Something red I'd love us to buy a centre back and a new keeper. Unfortunately it's Klopp and our transfer guys doing the business. Signing Ox to improve the squad whilst nailing all our other main targets would be great business. Ox on his own will be like a damp squib.

He would improve both our central midfield and wide attack strength in depth options considerably. There's still a chance he could develop into an outstanding player with the right coaching. For these reasons I feel he's worth a go.

He is an upgrade to Can and Milner for sure.

Dont understand another utility player again.

Cheers.

How is Oxlade an upgrade on Can? He's not a patch on Can in central midfield. Have any of you actually seen him play in central midfield? Because if you had you would say that he's awful, because he lacks any of the fundamentals skills to play there and doesn't have the mental discipline. I urge you to watch him being made to look like a non league footballer by Kante and Pogba when France played England.

26 Aug 2017 00:26:53
How old is Ox? Why don't people think he can improve. Why does everyone slag off any player before they kick a ball for the club, let alone get a season it dare I say 2.

13.) 26 Aug 2017
26 Aug 2017 00:52:56
He lacks the skill or intelligence to be a top class footballer. Buying him is the same as every other mistake we've made in every other transfer window as far back as you care to go. Signing him is no different to Adam, Cole, Downing, Carroll, Balotelli, Markovic Etc as he's a very very average player who is over priced that we are going to throw a ridiculous bag of money at, whilst our best player packs his bags and goes to Barcelona. This is literally history repeating itself.

Where is Cover of calibre for mane or salah in the squad? nowhere. If klopp likes ox then I'm all for it. However, a defence in place that makes literally everybody nervous is a glaring discrepancy that needed to be addressed at the beginning of the window. Myself and my cousin are over from Limerick (Steve finnan country) for the weekend, to push through a deal for Kevin Doyle so we will be fine going forward for the season, but where's the deal for McShane deal we've all been crying out for?

Clamour. lovely word and so applicable to a transfer saga, especially an agents pre-deadline do when only the excitement of the 50/ 50 egg-mayo crust ridden sarnies and lemo topped jarg preseco champagne flutes, is the only fulfillmemt the leaches of all but freebie journalists can endure to ensure a feeble yet click-bait article to appease the vultures.

16.) 26 Aug 2017
26 Aug 2017 09:15:37
All of this ox talk wreaks of desperation, just to satisfy peoples need to see signings. Ox has been playing in the league for nearly a decade and has not improved one bit, i fail to see what will change with us. I would prefer to continue to develop woodburn, grugic and kent than waste money on someone who does not either improve the team or the squad significantly.

{Ed002's Note - It is not desperation as Klopp likes him and the interest has been known for months. Hopeless.}

17.) 26 Aug 2017
26 Aug 2017 10:17:36
I'd rather we didn't sign anyone at all if the only player we were looking at bringing in was Oxlade. We need players that can turn us from also rans into competing for titles and that is not a player who's output is appalling and severely lacking, the fact that he's an England international shows the dearth of quality available. £35m+ for a very ordinary player in the last year of his contract makes no sense at all. Then taken in context of the almost inevitability of Pipco leaving and it's a baffling decision as he brings none of the qualities that Pipco has. The only thing he does is run around like a headless chicken and her injured.

26 Aug 2017 11:08:57
Ox is an upgrade on Can, Samikewell? Wow, thank heavens you don't run transfer business at LFC. We would be in the Conference by now.

19.) 26 Aug 2017
26 Aug 2017 11:42:03
Have you seen how light that midfield can be with a couple of injuries? Ed002 have said it a million times that Klopp has always liked Ox, and we know he can play a number of positions. Why not give him a chance and judge him when he becomes a Liverpool player, if that ever happens? He has also expressed his love for Liverpool and considers Stevie G a mentor. Gini is a bit off-color at the moment; Can may be gone next year; Henderson's injury could flair up at any point in time given the kind of injury. Then Countinho is . Countinho. Then we have Milner, who's now probably better as a left back than a midfielder. So why is Oxlade such a bad idea?

20.) 26 Aug 2017
26 Aug 2017 12:00:49
Noski it's a bad idea because he's not a central midfielder. Imagine putting Oxlade up against Matic and Pogba? Or Kante and Bakayoko? Or Dier and Dembele? We'd get played off the park. He's not up to the job. End of story.

21.) 26 Aug 2017
26 Aug 2017 14:37:03
The difference is Mr Dennis is Ox is a good player. Kanye and Logba are very good players, yes Pogba was woeful last season but for France he's quality and while he was at Juve he was also quality. Ox isn't as good as either of them but unfortunately because we mess about with transfers tapping up etc we will always fall short with signing these very good players if we continue to tap up. Ox would be a good option imo he'd give us options and actually give us some pace on the bench from an attacking perspective it's all well and good people saying Origi can play out wide but honestly he's wasted there so Ox is a good option!

22.) 27 Aug 2017
27 Aug 2017 08:12:14
Mr Dennis, it seems that people are trying way too hard to sell this notion that Ox is a good player whereas there is NO basis in reality that any of that is true. Ox is not better than Mane nor Salah out wide. He is supremely inferior to Can, Lallana, Wiji and Hendo and he is not fit to carry Cou's toilet bag. Those are the facts, plain and simple. This guy is worse than a passenger in central midfield, has NO end product out wide and is a poor defender at wingback so again, what will he add to our team/ "An option" people say. What option will he add? What quality will he add? You cannot add what you don't have. The only quality he has is that just like the other poor players like Gibbs, Walcott and Barkley, they are English hence, English bias towards them in the media coverage. Were he not English, no one would care for any of these woeful players. Ox is pants and the fact that Klopp may want him, changes none of that.
