My mate just text me to say Barcelona have offered Lucas Digne and Rafinha as a make weight in a deal for Coutinho to ease a last minute CB, LB and Midfield shortage.

Those two, plus £70m, then go buy Mahrez and wait til next year for Naby.

2.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 17:36:01
We've got a left back and Rafinha is a terrible player. Why are people so obsessed with Mahrez? He's awful?

3.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 17:40:28
Can't all be wrong. Mahrez is pretty good. better than you might think.

4.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 17:44:49
Firstly we do not have a midfield shortage and secondly u named 2 players but 3 positions. is rafinha a utility player or can he play cb and midfield?

5.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 17:47:47
Agree with Frankly. All those players offered by Barcelona are useless.
Only player I would take is Suarez.

Also no need to mahrez. aweful.

6.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 17:51:45
I'd rather have the money.

7.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 17:53:15
No to any Barcelona player which is surplus thank you very much.

Luckily LFC have zero interest in Barcelona players :-)

8.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 17:55:03
why do barcalona think we want there castoffs. we hold all the cards and if Barcelona want coutinho so much either put up or shut up. and as for so called family members slamming l. pool over this transfer slam they should slam coutinho he's not long signed a 5yr contract.

{Ed025's Note - contracts of footballers are not worth the paper they are written on steve..

9.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:03:06
Mahrez is awful? awful enough to win POTY. Give over, the Rafinha part aside (who is bang average) it's actually a really good suggestion.

10.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:03:11
Oirish Kev, Mahrez had one good season for Leicester and was rotten last year, I think we've seen enough one season wonders. Besides which he's hardly a number 10, he lacks the composure and intelligence on the ball.

11.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:04:33
We don't want their rubbish.

12.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:14:39
If Coutinho does move on, which im expecting now, we should look to Barkley for now. Use some of the balance for VVD.

13.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:25:21
Digne is more injury prone that Sturridge. Besides, Liverpool already have Robertson, Milner and seemingly Moreno is staying. No need for a full back this window.

14.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:29:59
Keep him, transfer requests 24 hrs before season starts? Liverpool has taken enough stick for their transfer dealings this summer but at least they bid for the players at the start of the window, not 3 weeks from the end of the window after they failed to get their first choice. tell him he's staying till next summer, end of. And before someone says the club were aware he wanted to move months ago. why didn't they bid months ago? as much as Liepzigs stance has been frustrating this summer i think everyone would have to respect their decision and that's the same way it should be now regarding Liverpool. the club won't sell this summer.

15.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:38:35
Barkley? Ed025 wants shot of him, which is indictment enough for me.

HX, Mahrez really isn't very good. he's only ever had one really good season in his career and suddenly he's a £50m footballer? Last season he was at best mediocre. Like I say, lack of composure on the ball and goes missing if he can't be bothered. Let someone else get mugged.

16.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:42:59
Who wasnt 'rotten' for Leicester last year?

Not that I necessarily want him, but a Mahrez in a free flowing attacking team would be an asset.

17.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 19:10:35
I don't see how having one really good season in a career is enough to spend £50m? Davey have you actually watched him beyond a highlights reel? Last season was more representative of his normal output.

18.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:14:15
Keeps the price of a player intact though Ed25.

{Ed025's Note - it does to a certain extent i suppose nicky..

19.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:47:07
I think Mahrez is magic on the ball, what he lacks is grit, determination and work ethic.

{Ed025's Note - dont forget loyalty and honesty jayden..

20.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 18:56:51
I would agree to push for cash only deal, get the players we want rather than trying to make them fit.
Would they agree to move? No idea myself!
Mahrez is very hot and cold, with the money we could probably get a better player.
Always wanted Draxler, but probably no chance and not even a consideration - good player though.

21.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 19:00:55
Some on here saying Mahrez is a one season wonder. Isn't keita as well? Fickle!

22.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 19:28:42
Good point Rome.

23.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 19:19:44
Mahrez isn't a 50 million pound player you're right, but neymar shouldn't have been a 200 million pound player either, Coutinho shouldn't have been a 100+ million pound player but this is the climate we're in, if siggy from swans is 50 million I'd jump at mahrez for 50! (not slating Everton's attempts to sign siggy I think he's very good too)

24.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 19:30:06
If we sell Coutinho then whatever player we go for we will see his price rise dramatically and the club get held to ransom. We are literally in a no win situation.

25.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 19:42:59
If you think Mahrez would be a good fit, than you really don't understand our system. His work rate is appalling, and in a high press system, all it takes is one player not doing their job for a defensive collapse. I would be shocked if he was a player that Klopp holds an interest in.

26.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 20:00:01
I wouldn't really want any of those Leicester players, I can't say it was all of them, but to be honest the way they went about the business with CR was a joke.

27.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 20:10:08
Actually Mahrez is a one season wonder, whereas Kante continued in the same vein and isn't a one season wonder (two consecutive league winners medals? ) . The two seasons before Leicester won the league Mahrez was very very ordinary, the season following, he was very very ordinary. Hence one season wonder. As he was really good for one season and really poor for three.

28.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 20:53:48
Mahrez is a classy player. When he wants to turn it on he is as good as, if not better than most wingers in league. BUT. Haven't we just signed a winger? I don't think klopp would go near him as his work ethic is not there.

I agree with post that says, TR is too late in the day, season starts tomorrow. Before we start feeling sorry for pipco let's remember he is on £140.000 a week. He plays for an elite club an is in same tournament that Barcelona are in. He will get his chance at Barcelona I'm sure but everyone knows we don't have a strong enough squad to let him go atm. If we'd got kieta I think FSG would have said "ok barca" but as it stands we need him too much.

I think any thought that Phil would choose us over Spanish giants has now gone. We know how he feels about it all. I say, if we get kieta then fine, he can go, if not then he simply can't desert us, the team that's has ignited his career. Let him know this is the case. End of. He will play well for us as world cup, and if he had poor season would Barcelona still be interested? I know the eds say that Barcelona say "it's now or never" but that's rubbish. They are always in for the top south american players and Phil is still getting better.

Eds, I don't mean what you say is rubbish, it's what Barcelona say that I believe is rubbish. Your insight is great and sorry if I go on sometimes and contradict myself.

Who actually cares that much? So we lose Couts and we get a bucket load of cash and we buy a replacement. That is football fellas, we sell or they retire. This isn't Stevie we are talking about, this is a player who has been good for us that we bought for inbetween 8 - 10 million. He has done his duty and if he leaves will fetch us a good profit. Klopp and Co must have already known about this as the rumours having been running for a year now - no smoke without fire. FSG haven't been able to/ don't want to splash out the dosh to create a dream team that is guaranteed to fight for the title so there is no real drama here imo. I for one think that we have a good team and we have the chance to challenge. Looking forward to the new season, good luck gents.

31.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 21:28:44
I like what you say chuffes but the fact FSG haven't splashed out is the exact reason we can't afford to lose him. You're right that we have a great team with or without Phil but last term it was depth that cost us dearly and although we have 3"decent new players we've also sold a few and for me depth is still an issue, especially with European football.

Again, if we sign kieta, then let him go, he has served us well. If we get vvd too then depth certainly won't be an issue.

Quick honest question:

Why are footballers not allowed to leave their job when under contract, but in a regular job you can? Can't he hand in his notice?

Sounds like a stupid question, but seriously why?

{Ed002's Note - Their registration is held by there employers and they are contract under terms which do not fall under employment law. This has been explained on many occasions.}

@Ed002 where else do you see my post? This is the only place I have posted and it is my first time.

Mahrez is a cracking player when he wants to play. It seems to be just that though. Where was he when Leicester were getting smashed week in week out?

He was going to play cm so in theory we don't need a like for like.

12 Aug 2017 00:56:38
As sorry as I am to say this, I think we've made a rod for our own back in the way we've pursued vid and keita this summer. We've unsettled our targets, and that has no doubt negatively affected other teams preperations for the season. I can't see how we can complain when Barcelona do it to us. I think we make it clear we want £120m+ and let couts go with our gratitude and best wishes. It's not like he's pushing for a move to arsenal. thoughts?

FranklyMrShankly - keita and Kante are 2 different players for 2 different teams in 2 different countries. Just in case you are unsure who Keita is. No mention of Kante being a 1 season wonder 🙈.
